well, linda, i cannot find a Philip prestidge in Hinckley in 1901 or 1891 either. i have tried ever so hard for you but am having to have to say 'enough ' now. there are elements that i do not understand - how 3 children can be born over 6 years or so, in one county - northants- and their births registered in another - Leicestershire-. How this couple have vanished i have no idea. My eyes feel like grit, so am going to give up now. at least you are able to carry on, it wont brick wall you completely. very sorry Jess

Jess Re. Fanny Goodwin 'Frances Goodwin abt 1842 Faversham, Kent, England Servant Old Tower Without Middlesex < not a lot of good!' WHy do you think this isn't a lot of good, Jess? Are you saying her birthplace is Middlesex, as opposed to her residence, 'cos if so I agree with you. :-) But it's still closer than anything else I have been able to find. I really appreciate your efforts. Thank you. Sharon

Sharon - what i meant was this, if you fanny is a francis ( and she may be, she may not be,) even if we had a crystal ball and could see her in situ, she is still a servant and not with parents so it tells us nothing, in terms of knowing she is the right one. Jess

Jean, think you'd be better looking up his service records. not sure what you mean by ''birth records for Sells (whatever) hospital....'' Just becasue he wasthere in 1901 doesn't mean he was born there. If you dont know where he came from, was born or who he married, where does he fit in your tree?

Heres one thats puzzled me Jess and co. I have a Jonas Horstead born Shadwell Middx 1848. In 1870 he marries a Charlotte Harrington in Bethnal Green. In 1913 he dies in Greenwich. NOW, I can find him in 1861 with mum, dad (James and Mary Ann)and siblings in Stepney aged 13. Im pretty sure I have him mistranscribed as 'Thomas Horstead aged 43' with Charlotte Horstead in lodgings in Bethnal Green in 1891. BUT no other trace of him until his death aged 64 in 1913.

The Bag

The Bag Report 19 Aug 2005 14:48

Its will cost you Heather..... Lol any offspring of this union?

Heather

Heather Report 19 Aug 2005 14:52

Cant find any. As I just find them marrying in 1870 in Bethnal Green and then being aged 43 in lodgings (assuming Thomas is Jonas) in Bethnal Green in 1891. It was a family rumour he was in Greenwich Hospital for Mariners at his death but when I researched that aspect I learnt the hospital was long closed as such by 1913 and was in use as a college. I can hear you all saying ah, a mariner thats why you cant find him in 71, 81 and 1901 BUT where was Charlotte at that time? PS Should have kept my mouth shut about earning the big bucks, shouldnt I.

The Bag

The Bag Report 19 Aug 2005 15:05

Where did the Charlotte with Thomas /Jonas proport to be born and when? (please let it be somewhere obscure...!) * found his Bl**dy brother Edward, with his daughter called Charlotte!

Heather

Heather Report 19 Aug 2005 15:13

Oh, her place of birth is SO helpful Jess: Horstead, Charlotte abt 1848 London, England Wife Bethnal Green London Horstead, Thomas abt 1848 London, England Head Bethnal Green London No kids in lodgings with them. Bloody Edward is my GGF! His daughter Charlotte was my Great Aunt 'Wag'. Amazing isnt it when you think I actually knew her. I even have a photo of him clutching what I thought was a monkey under his arm but which my aunt (now 80) assures me was a much loved French Bulldog which she never saw but was held in reverence by her aunt (Wag) Talking of which, I expect my little pup has woken from his afternoon nap now, so better go and check him out.
