Jess, I have a nice sales line in second hand brains, mostly because I know how to pick them. If yours does become available please let me know... broken it would be of more use than some of the numpties I have to deal with! Anyway, I've been busy, so has Mike in Leicester, if you fancy reading the updates and I think you will, pages 8 & 9 of the 'who are we looking for in Leiocester'. Still reading you! x Bob

Thanks for looking Jess, think you're right and he was born before 1837. About the marriage recorded on IGI, if I sent the details to GRO would they be able to find it? These people must have found it somewhere to put it on there!!! Gloria xxx

The Bag

The Bag Report 21 Jul 2005 11:22

Gloria, my brain is next to useless- pick it ? pick it up and take it away PLEASE!! His birth will probably not be registered as registration eother didn't exist when he was truly born or had only Just been introduced if he was telling the truth. Ancestry doesn't cover any cenus earlier than 1861..and just to add insult to injury i cant spot the marriage!! Jess

Hi Jess, I am after picking your super brain again. Samuel Herbert Marsden. I am trying to find the details of a marriage and possible birth, to enable me to send for the certs. I found this on IGI--Marriage between Samuel Herbert Marsden and Elizabeth Rathbone 24 Dec 1855, St. Thomas, Heaton Norris, Lancashire (sometimes Cheshire). I have them on 1861,1871,1881 census and he is down as being born abt1837 (cant find birth so may be earlier). it says they were both 21 at time of marriage so there is a bit of discrepancy there. It also gives her father-- Nathaniel His father-- Thomas I have what I think is his death 1890 age 53yrs, Stockport Cheshire, as he doesn't appear in 1891 I think that is him. Hope you can help Gloria xx

Brennan

Brennan Report 21 Jul 2005 03:29

Hi Jess I'm a bit early tonight or should i say this morning. I found all of the information you gave me very interesting. Frier Barbara Mcgeoch, considering we know that she was more than likely illiterate (Yolden instead of Youlden) she spelt it wrong or people she was giving information to just had a stab at it, it's possible it got changed to Macgear. Now then, Before i became interested in my ancestors and joined GR i used search all sorts of odd sites, looking through some old notes i found some information i had taken from Kellys Directory 1933, lists trades/shops etc of B,ham. On the 1891 census list of names you gave me the address was 135 Suffolk St for Bull and Frier, Kellys--- Barbara Youlden (nee Frier) shopkeeper town central, Suffolk St is right in the centre of city. She also was a coal dealer in Philips St Aston then the last one, you gave me details of a possible daughter, Youlden, Barbara Macgear,Birth,1894, Kings Norton.Kellys--- Barbara Youlden coal dealer Kings Heath, these two areas are next to each other about 10miles from Aston. I suppose it is possible she had family there and thats why she travelled, what i would think in those days was a good distance, to have her (we assume) daughter and run a business. I can remember when i was in shorts being told we came from Scotland, top of your list, Bull, Barbara abt 1824 SCOTLAND, wish i hadn't remembered that now i will have to find out if it's correct, questions questions. Anyhow, when i get to see the certs that i need to send for i will hopefully get some helpful answers. Thank you very much for your help Bren

Hi Jess That is definitely something which I need to investigate further. Thanks for the info and were you able to find him on the 1891 or 1901 census. I am starting to think he may be a confusing one!!! Thanks again, Emma
