Hi Heather, I personally find it down right stupid for GR to delete a thread after receiveing only 1 complaint. Surley if it was that bad, they would have received more than that. They really should take a quick look to see what the thread is about before deletion. c x (PS sorry for any spelling mistakes......have big plaster on finger and keep hitting more than 1 key!!!!)

Are you all reading Meercat's thread on the general board which ties up with this one? It seems that the person concerned is not a full member so can't actually access the boards to post. but is able to contact the abuse e mail. I would think that only full mmbers should have the ability to complain about threads anyway. otherwise what do we all pay our subs for? Personally i would like to see it a members only site and I have said that all along. Ann Glos

Ann, I completely agree with you there. I was trying to post something similar, but the words wouldn't go down right. Thanks for posting :)

Ann, I agree. I think only full (fee paying) members should be able to have access, read, and post on the site. Somehow the culprits had Meercat's and Elaine's email address. Joy

Meercat They MUST have had your personal email When you contact GR you get the following These fields are usually filled in for you, with your details, but you can change them. Department <Abuse> Your Email Address <my addy> (they changed theirs with your email addy) Your name <my name> (they changed their name with your name) Subject <General Topics> They MUST have got your email addy to add it in place of their own addy. You may have given out your addy, you may belong to another website where you use your addy. There are loads of posibilities. The only downfall in this little scam is that they leave their member number as a signature. I hope GR take things further when they catch those responsible. Elaine x

I used to spend an hour or two every night on these boards (General and Tips mostly...with a bit of Records thrown in when it was quiet)... now I spend a few minutes every few days. I only log into GR to update my tree, reply to mail, and contact a few family members. The past few weeks (as I have already said) have seen a huge change within these boards with someone hell-bent on causing trouble that has undermined the friendliness that used to be here. I'm all for a more formal type of board - but not so rigid that everyone is afraid to post anything lest they incur the wrath of the GR team (and the pointy end of a grumbling stick held by a bias complainer, it seems) ... but with that formality should be the ability to move threads, not just remove them. I suggested that the people who spent time within the bar threads should stop helping for a while... since that suggestion, this board in particular has become more quiet than usual. I'm not saying that these people have stopped helping out... but if they have, it would explain the huge degree of quiet in here. Apart from that, many members are leaving - not renewing their subs or simply giving up on what appears to be a bias against certain members. If GR could only be consistent, and remove ALL threads that shouldn't be on the tips board, then at least that would be fair... to keep picking on certain members is unfair and is becoming the ruination of GR. I have joined other FREE forums that are a lot more useful than GR of late... and I won't renew when my time finishes with GR - unless there is a drastic change for the better. The SS GenesReunited is sinking...

Just a word of warning - if you use a shared computer (eg in a library or somewhere), then by default your Genes login is stored in a cookie. Therefore, unless you explicitly sign out when you're done, the next time anybody goes to the GR website on that PC, it will automatically log in to YOUR account.... with your username & email address available to them. I don't think that can be the problem in this case as otherwise the interloper would have had your membership number... but with all the crap that's going on at the moment, better to be safe and always click the 'Sign out' link when you're finished. Update: I have asked GR to investigate as a matter of urgency. How dare anyone call me a troublemaker. What a cheek! I have always tried to be as helpful as possible. nell

nell, Those of us who are members on here know that. this low life person was only saying that to cause you to get annoyed and to stir up trouble. they have certainly succeeded there so no doubt they are sitting in there murky little corner laughing their socks off. i hope it makes them happy. Hi Louise... I'm doing okay - and hope you are too :) I'm not actually advocating deleting all threads that are not appropriate for the tips board, but if GR did that then at least it would show some degree of fairness. They seem to be deleting specific people's threads, rather than specific non-topic related threads... I'm not making myself very clear am I ? lol I think that if anyone complains about a thread, they should have to give exact reasons WHY...even if it is just a post within a thread (this should be made clear), then the supposed offensive post/thread should be checked by the GR team, and then decided whether or not to delete. Before deletion (if appropriate), I agree entirely with your post in that the thread users should be notified before deletion. I'm assuming GR are NOT reading these messages - surely they would be doing something by now if they were? I live in hope that GR will turn up trumps for its members... and sort out this ill-feeling that has crept intop the boards within the last few weeks. I would dearly love to see the board as it was before - with the members all interacting and helping ... It's not all doom and gloom - the boards are still here... and people are still using them. It just feels as though there is a great deal of unrest and malice lurking somewhere (overdramatic, or what!?! lol) I have no idea how to rectify the situation to everyone's approval... maybe GR feel the same?
