Ok, Thanks. His birth certificate will probably be hard to find, but I will try. Thanks. Do you have time to look up someone else for me please?

The Bag Report 4 Jun 2005 09:42

His birth cert would tell you where he was born and both his parents names, both of which will help define the right man.Without that it is just guesses. Jess

Thanks Jess. He was my grandfather's father. All I have is a marriage cert, which sas he was 25 when he got married (May 1916) and his father was William Spencer. Father's profesion is very difficult to read, unfortunately. I looks like Light____. Does that help at all? When he got married, he lived at 22 Joeseph St and he wass married in Mile end, London. I could try to get a copy of his birth cert, but I don't know if that will tell me anything that will help me find him in the census?

Tracy, there are 15 pages of John Spencers in that time frame! there is only one John J but his father isn't William. You need to find a bit more info- as late as 1901 should be fairly easy. Where did he fit in?, perhaps i can suggest the way to go. Jess

Patricia Report 3 Jun 2005 18:25

Hi Jess, Edward`s sister was Rosena Charlotte Robathan, married name Edwards born 1849 Marylebone, husband was David Edwards born 1847 in Marylebone. In 1881 they were living at 10 Walmer Street, Marylebone but I know that Edward was not with them, but his sister Annie Hunt was. She was from his mother`s second marriage. Thank you for taking so much trouble. Pat.

Hi Jess, Edward died as Robathan, and the informant was his sister, so I presume that he never married, His occupation given as General Labourer, and his address was 8 Croydon Street, Marylebone. Pat.
