Hello Jess Sorry to worry you again but could I have the info shown for the George Peek you have found on the 1861 census, inc address. Is the mother Sophia? Would still like the entry though, even if she isn't. Thought Sarah Ross would be difficult - I suppose I could also look for a death, you never know! Tku for your time. Christine

Tracey Report 10 Jun 2005 15:08

Hi Jess Yes, I do know where she got married. I have a copy of her marriage certificate. Although, I am at work and it is at home. I beleive it was Tottenham, but I will check. It was registered in Edmonton. *UPDATE* I've checked and it was Palmers Green where she got married. These, from your post, are her KEENE, Arthur Albert 1909 March Marriages Edmonton Essex Hertfordshire Middlesex SKEATS, Emily 1909 March Marriages Edmonton Essex Hertfordshire Middlesex She married Arthur Albert Keene in 1909, and they had a daughter, called Marjorie Kathleen May Keene, who was my grandmother. If you have time, could you look up her brother Caleb (skeats), on the 1901 census please? I think he was probably a fireman. This is what you found for him in 1891. Sheats, Caleb abt 1882 Edmonton, Middlesex, England Son Edmonton Middlesex. Thanks Tracey

Tracey Report 10 Jun 2005 15:22

Thanks Jess, I'll check again later. Yes, he must have been connected. I think I'll order a copy of his death cert, to see who his parents were. My Mum told me that there was a Caleb Skeats, who was related to her grandmother (Emily Skeats), who was a fireman and died in a fire, trying to rescue one of his own men. I thought it must be her father, but as he was a policeman, maybe it's her brother.

Hi Jess, I know you've gone to work but could you have a look at this for me sometime. I am trying to find Robert Allen (abt 1833) Oldham Lancashire in 1871 census. I have him in 1861 census with wife Hannah (abt1835), son Samuel O (abt 1856), and daughter Mary Jane (abt 1861). Living at 20 Lower Moor, Oldham, Lanc's. In 1881 he is still with his wife Hannah, daughters Ada (abt 1876) and Rose (abt 1876) Mary Jane (1861) must have got married as she's no longer there, sons James C (abt 1867), Robert (abt 1869)and Samuel (abt 1856). Living at 1 Cow Lane, Oldham. I can't find any of them anywhere in 1871 census. Is this sort of thing a regular occurance as I have found it before with other families, they seem to go missing for a census. Thanks a lot Gloria

Michaela Report 10 Jun 2005 22:01

Thanks Jess, that looks like them, the Grace family. Could you confirm, they have TWO sons called John? One born abt 1848 and the other 1852? Does it say Charles Grace's occupation? on the 1861 census middx. Charles Grace b. Shoreditch abt 1816, Caroline Grace b. Hackney abt 1817, John, James and Matilda. Jess, could you check the 1881 census please, can find births of children EXCEPT James on FreeBMD. I can't find ANY of them on the LDS 1881. Many thanks Michaela

The Bag

The Bag Report 10 Jun 2005 22:08

Michaela. It says two Johns, yes, although the older one is after the other children, and usually they are in year order decending. The actual image doesn't say SON but 'Do' which usually means Ditto and is under son, so that trancriber had taken it to mean son, although i would have my doubts.UNLESS he was the son of a former marriage of the father (but why would you call another son john if all the other children are his?) Do you have any of the childrens birth certs? it may be that the children are actually born of a Former husband that maybe died, and just used their step-fathers name Head was a labourer in the gas works ---------------------------------------------------- think i might chance this certificate Name: GRACE, Matilda Jane Record Type: Births Quarter: June Year: 1849 District: Bethnal Green County: Greater London London Middlesex Volume: 2 Page: 56 (click to see others on page

Michaela Report 11 Jun 2005 18:34

Thanks Jess, I have Sarahs birth cert. b. 1839, think she was first child. Don't know when Charles and Caroline married, mothers maiden names is (well, looks like) Hunton but I suppose I'm going to need parish records for that. Didn't know about the other children, on FreeBMD Matilda married in 1868 but I can't find any of them on the 1881 LDS, the whole family seems to have disappeared and Matilda doesn't 'show up' under the two male names on same marriage page. Would be nice to know if the parents died in between. Thanks Michaela

Evening Jess. I was going to check this out at the Record Office next week but I bet you can do it quicker!! Would you be an angel and check my brickwall of James Robinson born 1854 Portsea Portsmouth and family on the 1891 Census. You were able to find them on the 1901 but I still can't work him out. Does he appear or his wife Maria born 1859 in Brighton Sussex. Thanks.

Yes please Jess. I looked and couldn't see him but then they keep changing their birth dates. James was christened 12th Dec 1852 in Portsea. On the 1901 he declared himself born 1854 and on the 1891 he is born 1855. Maria declared on 1901 to be born 1859 and then in 1891 is suddenly born 1855. This family is doing my head in!!
