oh Sammy Im so sorry to hear things havent turned out as BIL wanted, he must feel deflated! I cant see any reason why she has'nt recieved the letters, unless they are being diverted! From the neighbours description she sounds like a very lonely woman who as Isolated herself away from society. Makes you think about her emotional and mental state! At least BIL as the satisfaction of knowing he tried, not to say that he isnt still dissapointed and should give up though. Lib

Smiley Report 7 Aug 2005 20:17

It's not good. They arrived, knocked several times but no reply, it's a bungalow, council type, the windows were open and a dog was barking. My BIL knocked for about 5 minutes then went back to the car. Then he decided to try the neighbours, one side looked empty and the other side is just a bit of land so he approached a woman he saw up the road. He said he was trying to get hold of Mrs H*** and she said ''oh, you mean Annie'' ''oh she wont answer the door, she's a recluse, never goes out, she's got badly injured legs and she can hardly walk. She's got a little collie dog' He knocked some more, but no response. He couldn't hear a TV or anything, other than a dog. He didn't tell the woman who he was, my sister wanted to try more neighbours but BIL didn't want to He then wrote her a short letter saying he had driven from Gloucester in the hopes that he would see her and he was concerned that she's not been getting his letters. He said he would come back anytime if she changed her mind. I cant see it though, can you? Unless she hasn't received her mail and this is a surprise to her, but I don't hold out much hope really. My sister is going to write to several neighbours, not sure what that will achieve because if she doesn't want to see him then that's the end. Sam

They might have got there later than scheduled....the terrain round there is a bit tricky and off the beaten track.

Hope everything went o.k. and BIL has now met his mother. I imagine that if it was about 2 p.m. when they got there and its a four hour drive, then allowing for (hopefully) at least an hour's visit, it's going to be after 7 or 8 tonight before we know anything. Can't wait!! Hope it's good news. Kath. x
