Hi Jess Ref: 1861 census John Cook bn 1810 Barrowford. Lancs.Don,t know how I missed spotting your reply having trawled through every reply on thread can only blame it on the problem I.m having with very large text.(or senile decay) This is my man. 'Your,re a Star' Thank you very much. If I could impose on you further, not being familiar with 1861 census returns. Does it show an address ?or just the village. 1871 shows him at the 'Inkermann Inn'Accrington Rd. Habergham Eaves.Lancs.1871 also shows Agnes Cook his wife as born Lancaster. Your 61 Transcription shows born chefles ??Lancs.Sorry to ask but could you possibly clarify these two points. Kind Regards Ron

Christopher Report 27 May 2005 11:11

Hello Jess, would you be kind enough to do a look up for a family called Rowley who lived in Leeds or the suburb of Hunslet in Leeds. In 1915 John Rowley the head of the family was living at 49 Cavalier Street when Rose Ann Moran his daughter married again to Maurice Ingram. Would you look up from 1881 to 1901please? The family that I know of consisted of the Father John Rowley. The mother is believed to be called Rose, but that’s not certain. What is clear is that the daughter’s names were Rose Ann born 1882 but I believe it could have been nearer 1876. Mary E born C1882. Elizabeth born c1877 and Ellen/Helen born c1878. Any help would be appreciated. May I add my thanks to all the research you do for me. You have saved my hours and days of toil searching through the census data at my local library. You are appreciated beyond belief. Thank you Jess

Christopher 1891 is proving harder at the moment the one one obvious is Mary Ellen (wonder what she did?) Name: Rowley, Mary Ellen Age in 1891: 11 Estimated birth year: abt 1880 Relation: Pauper Gender: Female Where Born: Leeds, Yorkshire Civil parish: Leeds Ecclesiastical parish: St John Baptist County: Yorkshire Source information: RG12/3696 Registration district: Leeds Sub registration district: North Leeds ED, institution, or vessel: Leeds Moral and Industrial Training School Folio: 142 Page: 5 ------------------------------------- other 3 girls Rowley, Catherine abt 1875 Leeds, Yorkshire Sick Inmate Leeds Yorkshire Rowley, Elizabeth abt 1886 Leeds, Yorkshire Sick Inmate Leeds Yorkshire Rowley, Rose Ann abt 1877 Leeds, Yorkshire Sick Inmate Leeds Yorkshire Source information: RG12/3696 Registration district: Leeds Sub registration district: North Leeds ED, institution, or vessel: Leeds Union Infirmary Folio: 132 Page: 14 ----------------------------------------------------- So presume Mum and dad are somewhere without them!! Johns bith year returns None, and ditto with given birth place. Just yorkshire returns 5 pages of that name. Wife is almost as bad! will move on to 1901 and see if 1891 then becomes more apparent.

Jess, Thank you so much for all your help on the Churchman Family in Ipswich, you found so much in such a short time!!! Sorry I forgot to tell you they were brothers and sisters with the exception of Charles who was a son!! If you have time and it is no trouble any further info on the 1871 census would be great. I think that the Charlotte may have been put in the workhouse because her father died when she was very young, I've come across her in the 1881 census still in the workhouse. Why her older siblings didn't take her in I don't know!! Anyway this newbie gratefully appreciates all your help! Kind regards Lisa

Hi Jess, I have written to you before as regards this family and have just recieved the birth certificate of the lady in question. Eliza Davies (1) married James Herbert Marsden 1896 in Heaton Norris Stockport. They are in 1901 with two children, and Eliza (1) is down as being born in Matlock, Derbyshire. Her father on the marriage cert was Thomas Richard (but looks like Rachel) Davies (desceased--we had a chat about this the other day, I sent for the wrong cert). On Eliza (2)Davies birth cert, her father is Thomas Davies, mother Martha Ann Davies nee Jackson, they lived at Cheadle Bulkeley, Stockport. I have found this Eliza (2) on 1881 and 1891 census The Eliza (1)in 1901 married to James Herbert is correct but I am trying to link her as the same person as Eliza (2). I know this sounds complicated and as there are so many coincidences in name it should be the same person, I am having trouble convincing myself of it though. Hope you can help, we have been part of the way down this route before. Gloria xx
