Hi Jess, I am struggling. On my grandfathers birth cert 1896 he is the son of James Herbert Marsden and Eliza Davies. In 1901 census Eliza is born in Matlock. I have searched high and low for her but with nothing conclusive so I sent for her marriage cert. She married James Herbert Marsden June 1st 1896, aged 21, her father desceased was Thomas (looks like ,Richard) Davies. She lived at 36 Higher Bury St. Heaton Norris in county of Lancaster. I cannot find anything else about her or her father in the earlier censuses unless with a name like that they lived in Wales, and there are a lot of them there. Any ideas, the address seems to be the only clue.

No problem Linda will look for you but need a bit more. any idea where they were born or if they had children. it is easier to look for group than one or two, especially as you are unsure of Grandmothers name. Do you know when they married? Just roll back up and add a reply and the info-if you have it should pop up here Jess

Jenny still l can't find any of them on 1871, tried all the christian names and years (although their birthplaces change) Will look again tommorow - i'm tired- guess they are all together and mistrancribed but as what is beyond me. i am working on the assumption they stayed in L Buckby

Beverly

Beverly Report 10 May 2005 23:43

Hi Jess Thanks anyway. I presume I will have to take a trip to the records library and ask for help. Not rude to ask at all , but I've just realised I put husbands parents in in my first message. I meant grandparents - Husbands father was not a great communicator about his past, and didn't keep in contact with his family. Only found his birth and marriage certificates when he died and so I've very little to go on. Cannot find any birth info for either of them so I was hoping the death certificates could give me ages. Oh well I shall keep trying. Thanks again Bev

Bev- its all too late for ancestry really - depending on how old they were when they married. Would love to help - is it rude to ask how he doesn't know this basic info Jess (an adoptee who knows virtually nothing herself!!)

Beverly

Beverly Report 10 May 2005 23:07

Hi Jess Hope you can help with BMD info. I'm trying to trace my husbands parents and unfortunately we know next to nothing about them apart from their names. From the electoral registers I have worked out that MAUD ETHEL PARRY died approx 1938/1939 and MARK LESLIE PARRY died about 1956/1957, both in Leicester. I think they may have married round about 1915 but don't even know if it was in Leicester. I would be very grateful if you can offer help, but don't worry if this is not enough information for you to go on. Bit of a long shot I know. Many thanks Bev Parry

EmmaG

EmmaG Report 10 May 2005 20:13

Hi Jess THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU!!! You have given me so much info now. I now know that Emma was always Emma and not Ellen so now I have to work out where she is on the 1881 census and 1891 census. Her daughter is the original Ellen Lord that I told you about and she was with the family in 1891. Anyway, Thanks again. Couldn't get pass this one before as I only had a mother(Emma)and no father and i didn't know how old Emma was. Thanks, Emma
