Hi Jess, You've tried to help in the past but have now received more info on my Jone's. I didn't want to ask anyone else as you've tried to hard for me in the past and I'm really gratefull. I understand that some people pose the same question to a variety of members and how this is upsetting, So I hope you don't mind me asking again. I've now got both grandparents birth certificates, but can't find their marriage, could you help? As I'm not sure if they were ever married, can't find children's birth details either. Name William Oswald Jones married Elsie Annie Coyne. they lived in Stafford & Nottingham. She apparently had 2 children before 'marriage' but I don't know if they were William Jones' or not. Although these children go by the name of Jones. The first child was born around 1925. William's parents were William and Jane and her parents were John & Frances. The approx year of marriage is 1927. Many thanks again Jess, Kind Regards Sandra

Well done!! Yes you found them. I'd tried before to find them 1891 and couldn't, so I thought they must have left the country or something! Any chance you could have a glance at the 1871 image and see what the other daughter's name looks like? Surely Rerfia isn't a name?! Many thanks for your help. Liz

Jess, Would you mind looking at the 1881 census for me, Im trying to find the relations living in the same household as: Alfred Chapman, born 1847 (aged approx 34) , Essex living in Englefield Green at the time of the census. His wife (if married at the time was Charlotte (born 1849, aged approx 32), although I do not know the surname). If you are successful could you look at the 1871 census, Alfred aged approx 24 and Charlotte aged approx 22, to see if there are other relations living with them. I appreciate any information you can find for me. Regards Matt Chapman

Jess, Tks your kind offer of help. Can you see William and Charles King b.1858 Redhill Surrey and 1861 Coulsdon Surrey on the 1891 census. Possibly living in the Caterham Surrey area but not at all sure about this. They are on the 1871 and thought I had found their birth cert refs and applied but they did not issue because the parents were not William and Ann (formerly Tompkins) King. That's one of the problems with such a popular name. Most grateful. Hope you can spot them (likely married) but it may be difficult. Christine!

Hi Jess, Just wondered if you managed to find my John Coyne in 1881, also I still can't find the marriage of my grandparents William Oswald Jones & Elsie Annie Coyne, I've tried Nottingham, Staffordshire, Cheshire & West Midlands, as I believe they may have married in one of these area, Elsie does go by the name of Jones, I've found her in the Electoral Roll in Cheshire. Jess, My last message to you didn't seem to post - I may have e-mailed it to you by mistake. Sorry Thank you so much for looking at the records for me I think Im on the right track with the right Chapmans at last. Are you able to give me the age of Walter who lived in the house ( I assume he was a child aged 1 or 2 but could you check) Also would you mind checking the 1891 census to see if they had any more children. They may have moved at this stage to Lambeth and Alfred may have died with Charlotte remarrying and taking the name Etwell ( I know in 1901 that this was the case - Charlotte lived with her new husband Frederick Ettwell and there daughter Florence Ettwell and her son Harry Chapman, My Great Grandfather, they lived in Lambeth as tobaconists/newsagents). Again many thanks it is much appreciated. Matt

Christine Report 21 Apr 2005 18:06

Jess, Tku for the quick response and, yes, that is the correct 1871 entry that you have found. It is the two sons, William King b.1858 and Charles King b.1861 that I am trying to trace forward. I have no clues about marriages or children or whether they moved from Caterham or what they did for a living. Yes, that is the birth cert for Wm King that I applied for and was told that the mother was not Ann formerly Tompkins which I know she was. I also found a Charles King birth 1862 June qtr Croydon 2A 184 but was told his father's forename was not Wm and his mother was not Ann formerly Tompkins. I cannot identify either of these men on the 1881, that is why on the offchance I asked you to be kind enough to check the 1891 for me. I don't know what happened to them after the 1871 census. They had an older brother and 2 younger sisters and I have traced all of them. But it's so difficult with a common name like 'King'. Tku v much for your time and effort. Christine
