Christopher

Christopher Report 22 Apr 2005 09:33

Jess. Please could you investigate the Hardcastle family for me. My Gt Grandmother was called Clara Hardcastle before marrying Thomas Kay in Hunslet (Leeds) in 1885. I have full knowleged from 1901 and her children. What I would like to find out is information pre married. The story goes that the family came from Whitby but I cannot confirm this detail. She was born in 1863 but as Free BMD only covers 20% of births for that period I would have to search fully myself to confirm any detail. If you can find any detail pre 1885 of the family in Leeds, Hunslet or Holbeck I would be really greatful, kind regards Christopher

Hi Jess, If you are still doing look-ups, I would be really grateful if you were please able to look up on the 1901 census: Walter G Walsh aged 3 (born 1897 but still 3 in march 1901) born and living in St Luke, Islington London. I think I may finally have found my Gt Grandfather and would love to know about his family and the street he was living in etc. Many Thanks, Sarah :)

Thanks Jess. I am looking for McLeans On NS 1901 site I can find James McLean Senior (42), James McLean Junior (19) and William McLean (14) all aboard ship. I cannot find his wife Emma (39), * Daughter, Selina Alice (19) Daughter, Mary (17)* Daughter, Jane (17) Daughter, Carrie (9)* Daughter, Kate (8)* Son, Robert, (6)* Daughter, Emma (5)* Daughter, Ella (6m) * For the last 20 years they were living at Prospect Place in Brixham. Lyla has managed to find all * together on 1901 on Ancestry but I cannot even find one on their own on the 1901 site. I cannot understand what I am doing wrong - I know they must be somewhere but even using the Intelligent Person Search facility I can't find any but the McLean men! There must be a special way of inputting information but for the life of me, even after reading their instructions, I cannot see what it is! Any tips? Thanks Abigail

Wow Jess, what can I say!! Thank you so much!! Hopefully this is my Walsh family, it certainly looks extremely likely. Can I be so cheeky as to ask you one more thing? Does it say what the Head of the households occupation was in 1901, my Gt Grandfather was a Hackney Carriage driver, and I have always wondered if it was a family trade. Thank you so much, Sarah :D

Abigail, this less -is-more theory only works if you are looking for an unsual name UNLESS yo want to look for John Born LONDON....and spend 3 weeks looking thru the results!! Always pick out the unsual christian name to look for first (then you will realise what you thought was unsual wasn't at all!!) jess x
