Jess. Re the Robbins. I looked up the christening of Lily and she was christened 5/6/1870 in Devizes. I then went to Free BMD and looked up the likely candidates. For June qtr 1888 at Devizes district there are:- Christopher Ellis. Lily Robbins. William Rose. Cecile Anne West. I assume then that she married Christopher Ellis. I have nothing else to go on and no children yet. With regard to the Mills Robbins aged 34 at Titchfield and Owen aged 25 at Westbury, have you still got the address of where they were? I am intrigued especially by Mills as he has come to near my home from Wiltshire. Also, how do you get the 1901 Census. Can it be bought or do you have to subscribe. I have loads of look-ups and don't want to abuse you help, so would buy it if it is available. Thanks for your help as always. Jan

Hi Jess, it's me again. I have found two more Robbins children, so that link has grown. Frank did marry and it was to Annie Sophia Bennett in Somerset, so you were spot on. If you still have time, would you check out Christopher Ellis or William Rose and see if they have a wife called Lily. I found a wedding for Lily Robbins June qtr 1888 at Devizes and these are the two candidates. Lily was christened 1859 in Devizes but they did three of their children that day, so unless they were triplets, I haven't got her actual birth day. Thanks

Thanks Jess. I'm slightly confused because when I found William & Jane (mum & dad) in 1901 they were on their own with no children at home - so does this mean depending on where you search you may get different results? Do you know the address they were at in 1901 please. But back to Charlotte - no I don't have anymore names for her. As she and Thomas were married about 5 months after the census I was hoping if I found her maybe he would be nearby. Back to my brick wall I think - but thanks or trying.

Please could you look for Charlotte Viney for me. She was born c.1880 Holborn Middx. I know this from 1881 census where I have found her whole family living at 4 Brooks Market, London. But I can't find her in 1901 or 1891. I am particularly keen to find her in 1901 because I'm hoping this may lead me to my grandfather, her husband, whom she married in August 1901. His name is Thomas Palmer and I don't know where he was born and there are quite a few of them. His father was William, a Plasterer. She was not at home 1901 census as I have found her mum and dad on their own. I'm hoping someone else might have more luck than I have in trying to find her. Many thanks.

Thanks Jess, that's something to go by. I know nothing of the girls, so any help would be appreciated. Strange that Mills ended up in Titchfield, that's my part of the world. He was an Architect on the 1881 Census and I can't see much call for that in Titchfield. Laura was an artist painter and Frank was a sawyer mill owner but I don't know where or any more details. Thanks.

Kathleen

Kathleen Report 11 Mar 2005 13:22

Thanks, Jess. That looks to be a plausible explanation, given there's no other trace of her. It's possible that the enumerator has transcribed the place of birth wrongly. Emma was born at Adwyrclawdd, according to her birth certificate but we know she was unable to read & write and in any case an English person may have misunderstood or misheard her due to her accent (the family were welsh-speaking at home).
