Hi Fi I'll put you down on the list. Housework seems very tame in comparison to looking at records. Tracy The tour should give you an idea of the sorts of records they hold and how they would be of use. Kew holds different sorts of records to what is available in County Record Offices. To search successfully, you need to have a good idea in advance of which records you need and exact dates. Some records are vast and you can spend ages looking without finding anything if you're not careful. Everybody was really friendly and helpful last Saturday, both members and staff, so it is a good day out, even if you don't find anything on a first visit.

Hi Ann We will meet up sooner or later! I think Natalie's idea on another thread of GR badges, to recognise fellow members in record offices, was a really good one. There might be a friend off the boards, sitting at the next table at lunch, and you'd never know....

Hi Brenda Just had a thought about how Kew is laid out (stairs, steps etc) and how is it for disabled access? Is it all on one floor and if you need to move between floors, are there lifts or is it stairs? Lou

Louise

Louise Report 12 Mar 2005 11:51

Hi Brenda, Please change my provisional OK to a definite one. Thanks. Louise

Phoenix Report 12 Mar 2005 13:14

Hi Lou This is what they say on their website: The National Archives welcomes you and we provide full access to public areas. There is a lift to all floors, and the building is wheelchair-friendly. There are toilets for both holders and non-holders of RADAR keys. If you go to their website, under the section 'Visit us' they have fuller details if you have any particular difficulties. The most difficult place to negociate is probably the restaurant, but the staff are friendly and helpful.

This is the current list of those who want to come on 30th July Confirmed Anne in Surrey Chris in Sussex Fi Helen Little Nell Patricia Cheeseman Tracy Elsom Viv. Vivienne Bodimeade Tracy's husband Mike in Oz Anna I’ve set the date so far in advance to ensure that we are booked for a tour. The fact that the National Archives had already a group booked for my first choice of date indicates that the tours are popular. I’ve said our group size is fifteen. At this stage the numbers are fairly flexible, but if you want to come and go on the tour, which should help you with any future research, please add to this thread as soon as possible. Nudged for Monday

Yes of course you can, Pat. And I hope you have a better journey. At least I knew my trains were b***ered up. 2 1/2 hours travelling must have taken all the shine off the day. Brenda
