Well knock me down with a feather! I just looked at the Archaic medical terms site and it says "Chincough or chin-cough Whooping cough " or as the medical profession likes to call it now, pertussis. nell

Henry (who ate the notorious meat pie) deserted his wife Janet a few months earlier. She was admitted to the poor house and was described as "much given to drink". I think she may have been responsible for stealing the lettuce. Incidentally, she died of "senility"

The owner of the eating house said "we have never had any complaints before" and "possibly 40 or 50 persons had meat pie on that day" So, if you have a missing relative in Tilbury Docks area in August 1900, could be he ate one of the other portions of pie!

another great grandfather died in his early 50's of exhaustion. then I realised he had been a busy chappie - got a neighbour and gt gran with child at the same time and then when gt gran died a short while later he married the neighbour. In total gt granda fathered well over 20 children - neither wonder he was exhausted!!!!!
