Can't access internet from desktop - help!

A very strange thing has happened. When I click on Internet Explorer on the desktop I get "page cannot be displayed". If I open OE then close it (remaining on-line) IE is fine. My broadband connection must be OK or I wouldn't be able to access OE. I wondered whether anyone out there might have a solution to this. I'm using ME by the way. Thanks in advance, Jill
