Rosemary. These are the Swaffield's in 1851 census Sarah Head widow 50 Robert son 15 tailor Louisa daugh 11 George son 8 Caroline 6 William visitor 58 tailor living at Fore street Thorncombe Axminster Devon.

Swaffield We can trace out ancestors back to Thornecombe 1719, they were tailors but it is believed that they originated in Devon. Has anyone come across Swaffields in Devon Was Thornecombe once in Devon

Sandra, The only John Cornish married to a Mary on 1851 census is this one. John Head 39 butcher Mary wife 37 Elizabeth daugh 15 John webber Cornish SonL 11 (can not understand SonL) Mary daugh 8 Charles son 6 Henry Hill Lodge 25 living at Clifford Street Chudleigh. What do you think? Have not found Thomas Petherbridge yet but, will look again.

Jillian, Have found 26 collings born Devonport 2 James born 1829/1841 There are 7 Rice 4 named Skinner Rice being second name. Can I help anymore? ---------------------- Michelle. Youlden there is 127 on 1851 census but, can not find Bridestowe could it be under another name? ------------- Kim. 372 Judd but only one I came up with born Parkham Peter Judd Head 38 ag lab born St Giles Devon Elizabeth wife 35 Parkham Frederic son 6 st giles John son 3 Mary daugh 1 Census place St Giles in wood Torrington. also there is a Henry born 1837 servant Lewis born 1842 Lodger. -----------------

Hi All, These are my brick walls. The names I have are= COLLINGS- Mary ann born abt.1828 Devonport,her father is named James. RICE-Charles born abt.1827 Devon, his father is named John I have the marriage cert for Mary & Charles in 1854 at St.Mary's Devonport, the address given was Doidges Well Devonport, thanks Jill

tracey, Most Houchen's are in norfolk but found this one near Exeter Bircham Houchen Head 30 curate Catherine Ann Houchen wife 24 Archibald Cunningham Houchen son 3 months Sidmouth living Chittleham holt South Moulton. can look up Norfolk if you have information.

Hi Sally, and Smiley Sammy, I'm finding this line of Rowe quite difficult - it's such a common name. I do have his marriage certificate and so now know that Richard Rowe's father was John and it stated he was a carpenter. Would love to have more details of the one who was on Fore street, Sally, do you have any more you can tell me about them? Well, I'll keep plugging away and see if I can find out who he was.
