Think it might be Winchester. Crista

Crista That would be a nuisance! I was searching for Elizabeth Duffin's birth (wife of Henry Riggs) and the only Elizabeth Duffin that was feasible that I could find in 1859 was from Droxford! I was hoping that was going to be the one, but having already made a mistake with her sister Emily this week..... Ann

Crista, did you see the message from Shelli on my thread we were on last night? Ann Glos

Ann from Glos: Shawford is in the Winchester diocese of Hampshire. I reckon that All Saints Church, Compton, Shawford might be your first port of call. Just type in AllSaintsChurchComptonShawfordHampshire and you will find it there with picture also. Happy hunting. Lynne (also from Glos.)

Phillimore's Atlas in any big library(Reference section) will give you all the parishes certainly of England and Wales, unsure whether Scotland is there as well. It is an expensive book so it will be reference only. It is a must once you are into parish registers. Janet

Thanks for all the advice. It was definitely not Twyford (I actually went through there yesterday on my way to our daughters at Colden Common.) Saw the sign to Shawford too. But I don't necesarily need to visit there/ It is really to establish the parish of birth for when I am searching for Elizabeth Duffins birth in the 1837. The family bible actually calls it Shawford Lakes.. I am assuming that Shawford is the same place although, as my daughter says there don't seem to be any lakes around there now. Maybe there were lakes in the grounds of Shawford house originally. Anybody know? Ann Glos

Ann, Hi and how are you? Don't discount Droxford. That is surely still in the Diocese of Winchester? Jim XX

If you Google search, it would seem that Shawford Lake now refers to tributary links to River Hamble. Maybe water company or similar could help with location.
