Please help if you have the time. In 1881 census (RG11, P39, folio 3653/51) James Burks lived at 27 Napier St, Everton, Lancashire with wife Susan and 7 children. He was born in 1832 in Eaton Constantine, Shropshire and was a house joiner.: second son was James H Burks born in Wolverhampton and aged 17 in 1881. In 1901 census James' wife Susan is living with youngest daughter Gertrude at (RG13, Piece 3476, folio 30 page 3, schedule 12) at 18 Orient St, Everton, Ecc parish St George, Lancs but there is no husband James. I would like to know where the family were in 1891. the spelling of name changed sometime between 1881 and 1901 from Burks to Burkes. Any info on James H Burkes would also be appreciated as this is the g g grandfather I am researching. I have found him in 1881 census (1n 1881 he wass living with father James and he was a bricklayers labourer and was 17 and born in Wolverhampton) and again in 1901 census where he was married to Ada Burkes and lived at 146 Longmor Lane, Walton on the Hill, Bootle South West Lancs. - RG 13, 3451-71-1-59. Hope you can help. Audrey.

Vivienne. Could you help me with the 1891 census. I am looking for two sisters, Mary and Ellen Ashton, both born around the early 1880's, in the St helens area of Lancashire (could include windle, eccleston and sutton). Sorry if it is vague, but I currently do not have that much information. They both married a Henry Ashton, born about the same time, same area. Mary first, she died shortly after marriage. Henry then married Ellen. If it cannot be done, don't worry. Andrew.

Vivienne, I am desperately looking for Annie P. Dawson born in Rochdale in 1880. I believe her father to be Charles. She has two brothers called Charles and Joseph and two sisters called Rose and Margaret. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Vivienne

Vivienne Report 2 Dec 2003 00:17

Hi Andrew, Cannot find anything on the Ashton sisters. Obviously I do not have anything on their marriages, as they would only be in early teens in 1891. Sorry Viv

Hi Viv I'm, looking for Edward Robert Terry born in Poplar East London in 1879. His father was Edward Terry born Maidstone and his mother Sarah born in Greenwich. Another user has kindly found his parents, a brother and a sister living at Station Road, Poplar on the 1891 census but no sign of young Edward. (the family name had been transcribed as Gerry in error and therefore took some searching for!). I also can't find him on the 1881 census so it's possible he was living with someone else from an early age. I'd be grateful if you could see whether he might be staying with relatives (Sarah's maiden name was Grayston) or something similar. Many thanks Helen

Helen Report 2 Dec 2003 16:34

Oops, Sorry Viv, that did turn out to be a different family (forgot it was yourself!), looks like I'd better give up on this one, seems he was probably living with another family and perhaps either missed off both censuses or his name was incorrectly recorded. Sorry to have troubled you again. Kind regards Helen
