Hi Amanda, The freebmd site is freebmd(.)rootsweb(.)com (no www) - it's a free site which is putting the birth marriage and death indexes on line. Once you find your index you can send off for the cert. from ONS. The Tofts (not including the ones I found for you before) are listed below, there could be some I've missed if they've been vague about where they were born. These are ones born or living in Warwickshire. Mary Toft, head, wid, 65, Living on own means, Salops Madeley Emma Toft, daur, sing, 26, Birmingham Warwickshire (Living Birmingham, Warwickshire) George Toft, head, mar, 37, blacksmith, Warwickshire Birmingham Helen Toft, wife, mar, 38, Gloucestershire Cheltenham George E Toft, son, 13, scholar, Gloucestershire Chelthenham Helen Toft, daur, 11, scholar, Glamorgan Swansea Florence M Toft, daur, 9, scholar, Glamorgan Swansea Mary Toft, daur, 6, scholar, Glamorgan Swansea Ethel L Toft, daur, 4, scholar, Glamorgan Swansea Minnie Toft, daur, 1, Wiltshire Swindon (Living Swindon Wiltshire) Charles Toft, head, mar, 58, living on own means, Staffordshire Hanley Lois Toft, wife, mar, 55, Staffordshire Tunstall Gertrude Emily Toft, daur, sing, 20, Warwickshire Birmingham Edith Evelyn Toft, daur, 9, scholar, Staffordshire Apedale Evangelin Maude, daur, 5, scholar, Staffordshire Stafford (Living Wolstanton Staffordshire) Mary Toft, head, wid, 77, Living on own means, Warwickshire Coleshill (Living Stoke on Trent) William Toft, head, mar, 64, slater, Warwickshire Kenilworth Annie Toft, mar, 66, Staffordshire Barlaston Harry Toft, son, sing, 22, potters presser, Staffs Dresdon (Living Trentham Staffs) William John Toft, head, mar, 50, template maker, Birmingham Harriet Toft, wife, mar, 42, Gloucestershire Cheltenham William James Toft, son, sing, 22, wagon maker, Gloucestershire Cheltenham Charles Bernerd Toft, son, sing, 14, wagon maker asst., Swansea Wales Chritopher Terrence Toft, son, 11, scholar, Swansea Wales George Albion Toft, son, 9, scholar, Swansea Wales Winnifred Annie Toft, daur, 7, scholar, Swansea Wales (Living Openshaw Lancashire) Christopher Toft, lodger, wid, 29, carpenter, Warwickshire Birmingham (Living Roath Glamorgan Wales) William Toft, head, mar, 33, builder, Birmingham Eleanor Toft, wife, mar, 35, Birmingham Nelly Toft, daur, 7, Birmingham (Living Ladywood Birmingham) Elizabeth Toft, pauper, sing, 48, imbecile (District Aston Union Workhouse, Erdington) Now if you had asked for Tofts in Staffordshire I'd have refused!! there are lots of them!!

Amanda Report 26 Sep 2003 01:45

Hi Lucy! Actually I don't know about the Freebmd site, what is it? Whoa! If I cut out here it's because there's a big lightning storm. I'd love to see that birth cert if I can. If you can look up the Tofts that would be of great help to me! Thanks again, better get on to the Coronation St site before the storm cuts me out. Just found out Roy gets Tracy preggers. Unbelieveable!!!

Hi Lucy. Thanks for looking but the one I'm after would have been 43ish. On the 1881 census she had a son William 10 and a daughter Amelia 5. Would you be kind enough to try again please. I'm desperate to know if there was another daughter. Thanks. Yvonne

Emma Report 25 Sep 2003 17:15

Hi Yvonne, There are quite a few Mary Johnsons in Hull, I have found this one; if it's not her let me know. ~Von~ Report 25 Sep 2003 15:13

Hi. Would you mind looking up Mary Elizabeth Johnson, widow, living with a son, William and possibly 1 or 2 daughters in Hull. Your help earlier in the week was fantastic, my tree has grown quite a few extra branches!! Many thanks Yvonne

Emma Report 25 Sep 2003 14:52

Amanda, Normally "niece" would refer to the relationship to the head of the household, but you know what it's like you can never be sure! Thomas Toft is "single" in the census so whether he's Annie's father is unclear. If it helps I can type up a list of the "Tofts" in the area - there aren't many and it may help in your search. Have you looked on the Freebmd site? There is a birth record on there for Annie Louise Toft born 1876 Aston Warwickshire.

Amanda Report 25 Sep 2003 14:38

THANK YOU SO MUCH LUCY! That made my day, wasn't looking forward to today until now. It seems like they're my people, but I have a question for you. This info differs a bit from how the Canuck census is done. Where it says Annie is the niece, does that mean the niece of the head? And would that make Thomas her father? Or possibly her uncle? Wish I had the info on what her parent's names were, then I would know for sure. The ages certainly match, and it would be about the time that Walter would have gone to India on a mission with the Sally Ann. Thanks again Lucy, this has really opened up the past for me. Any rellies you have in Canada I'd be more than happy to suss them out for you.

Emma Report 25 Sep 2003 12:14

Emma Report 25 Sep 2003 11:38

Lisa, I have found him for you. I noticed on the 1901 census that there was also a Robert Wacey, so I tried searching him and found Robert Waley with son Frederick Waley grocer's assistant in Hackney. RG12/206, Folio 176, pg40 South Hackney Ward, Hackney, London 202a Cassland Road Robert Waley, head, wid, 50, carpenter, Hackney Frederick Waley, son, sing, 20, Grocer's Assistant, Haggerstone Sarah A Waley, daur, sing, 18, Haggerstone

Emma Report 25 Sep 2003 11:32

Hi Lisa, Nothing yet for Frederick I'm afraid. I have found Emily Sinfield though (I notice she is Emma on both the 1891 and 1901 census) would you like her details?

Lisa Report 25 Sep 2003 10:53

could you possibly try the spelling WASEY please? I am looking for Frederick Wacey/Wasey/Wace I havent been able to locate my him on 1881 either. would you please be able to look for WASEY, i am looking for frederick born abt 1869-1871, possibly 20-22 on 1891 census. the 1901 census has him living and born in Hackney, London.
