There are a lot of messages from new people to family tree research asking for advice. Of course we are always willing to help. I want to say that a lot of assistance can be found at your local reference library, not to be confused with a specific Family History library facility. In the reference library you will probably find books on Genealogy, also books on surname and first name origins, nicknames etc. Another good resource is to buy one or all of the three monthly magazines - Practical Family History, Practical Family tree or Family History Monthly. they all have super interesting articles in, lists of surnames people are researching and lots more, even photo identification. they are meant to be kept as reference books. Lastly (for now). If you see a Family History Fair advertised, do go. It will be full of friendly like minded people and it doesn't matter if you are not researching in that area, there will be lots of stalls with helpful booklets etc. And of course there is plenty of expertise among the members of this site. Happy hunting. Ann Glos
