Just to say, Some one asked if it was safe to assume Patricia was their first child. I don't really think it is. It is possible that Henrietta was pregnant when they married or they may even have had a child before that. I was also thinking about the commisioning of the headstone. If she had been with the family for 4 years, since 5, then I would think they would have grown very attatched to her. It is possible that the Harrises paid for it. But then it's still possible that the community did or even her mother. I don't think we can really go further until we see what the marriage cert holds with regard ages. It may also give more info on the father's army career. My dad (and his dad's) marriage cert has their army numbers and stuff on. Also, saying 'ex-gunner' instead of a current occupation would imply that he'd either just left the army, or was unable to work due to injury, was retired, or simply unemployed (altho I would have thought that would have said unemployed). Stating an ex profession surely isn't commonplace like that... it wasn't that he made something up, so that would sway me more to being disabled in service or retired.

Hi Paul and everyone, what a wonderful job you are all doing for little Patricia. I truly hope you find her a family. I had a thought that maybe some info could be obtained from the railway company of the train that killed her. Would they not have had to do some sort of investigation. Moira

hi just to say thanks to paul for the pm and the link i got on to the site and it is fabulous. a great job. just one thing i thought about as i was drifting off to sleep last night. if william armstrong was older the henrietta might he have been married before and have children. he could have been a widower. if so then patricia would have had some half brothers and sisters ?? sorry if this has been mentioned before and i know someone will put me right cheers linda

Another few thoughts on this Did the SW Echo not carry it's BMD page back then? This should say if her father was still alive, give info on any siblings & give funeral directors name. Re the headstone, this could have been laid many years after the internment. Lastly, I find it so sad that the grave looks so neglected, I wonder if someone could take this on as a project. What springs to mind is R&M Local History Society (who may have more info on this) or a Scout Group.

Great site! Has anyone ordered the parents marriage cert? It would clarify ages etc. Am happy to do so if no-one else has (Rachel?): Patricia’s parents : 1933 Q2 Woolwich 1d 2308 Henrietta M Wilson William Armstrong Glad to see that Patricia's mum eventually found happiness with another partner in later life.

Just had a look at the website Paul. You've done a fantastic job. Has anyone thought of trying to find her friend Nanette Ray? she might be able to shed more light on poor Patricias' family. Caz

Mumsy Report 13 Aug 2007 14:48

You'll notice that Win Evans has already had a conversation with Nanette, as Paul mentioned after he'd met with him. I think sensitivity is needed at this point considering what she has experienced. Sorry to sound like I'm putting a damper on your enthusiasm but this is a living person we're talking about now. Mumsy.

Caz Report 13 Aug 2007 14:52

I can't get a match on here for Nanette or her husband Donald Russell. I don't quite know where to go next. I just thought that as Patricias' friend she might remember Patricia talking about her family back at home. I know they were only young when she died but I don't think poor Nanette will have forgotten the accident she witnessed or the friend who died. Caz
