Have looked for Jane Bneton's birth certificate, but nothing's coming up.

Off for my coffee (it's mid-afternoon here!)

Sleep well Joan.

See you later Daniel, ozibird.

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 22:56

on Rhoda's birth cert it has him as a Hawker, living in Windor (maybe worked for the queen ;-) ). Still will never know where he really came from :-( unless there's another way anyone can think of

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Sep 2007 22:59

I usaully think of a Hawker as a street seller selling stuff of a barrow!

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 23:06

lol I thought to do with birds of prey lol

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 23:06

What's your opioni, do you think that the Irish thing is correct, or that the person filling in the census just did a dito from the line above?

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 23:09

Ozbird, what Jane do you mean?

Ozibird Report 4 Sep 2007 23:17

I'm still trying to follow Jane. Bear with me.

Deaths Mar 1868
POWELL David 35 Pontypridd 11a 213

This may be her husband.

Update: The Jane I mean is their daughter in 1871 with grandchildren Llewellyn & Mary.

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 23:24

Thankyou Ozbird

Name: Jane Benton
Year of Registration: 1865
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Pontypridd
County: Glamorgan, Mid Glamorgan
Volume: 11a

Thats Jane's marriage, would that have mothers maden name on the cert?

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 23:26

just seen jane born in Breconshire, that family have been in about 6 different places

Ozibird Report 4 Sep 2007 23:27

Usually the mother isn't mentioned.

It's the birth cert you need but I can't find her.

Ozibird Report 4 Sep 2007 23:30

Yes. I wonder about her (Jane) age as she would've married about 15-16 years of age. Not impossible of course.

I put the marriage index in a previous posting. His name was David. I cannot find her in any other census or the grandchildren in later census.

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 23:32

Reggie found a few of Rhoda's brothers and sisters so great there, i can get their birth certs for morthers maiden name. Can't find James or Eliza in 1841 though, we found them in 1851 for definate, but it says that James is born in Ireland but I think that is a mistake, they seem to have just dito'd from the family above. Would really need to find the 1841 census for James Benton for definate he could be born 1804 or there abouts

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 23:34

Jsut had a thought, James Benton's death cert should have where he is from, is this correct?

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 23:34

James would have died between the 1861 and 1871 census, probably in wales

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 23:38

Ozbird, that mariage for Jane is the correct one, as it has David Powell on the same page

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 4 Sep 2007 23:44

His death certificate will only have his address at the time of death...and place of death, if different.

Only since 1969? have death certificates included place of birth.

Ozibird Report 4 Sep 2007 23:47

Deaths Dec 1879
Benton James Nathaniel 78 St. Olave 1d 217

Death cert's don't usually have where they are from. Also the information you get on a death cert is as good as the knowledge of the person registering the death.

Ozibird Report 4 Sep 2007 23:49

If this is your Eliza she should be on 1881.

Deaths Sep 1888
Benton Eliza 81 Pontypridd 11a 196

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 23:50

Thanks for the info Gwyneth and Ozbird, but looking at the 1871 & 1861 census has him from Middlesex, so that 1851 census, although correct his place of birth has just been dito'd from the family above, so not ireland.

Daniel Report 4 Sep 2007 23:54

can't see her on 1881, but that death cert is definatley correct
