I've got tatties growing in the compost bin, just about ready to flower. Also got some in buckets and in the ground, along with carrots, beans, peas, toms, turnips and peppers. Looking forward to a good feast later on.

Eeeeeeer ,Puss,you are supposed to use MATURE compost for growing tatties in you know ,lol.
This question has thrown me somewhat lol,i reckon you will have to play it by ear he he..
When the tatties come through[if they do]keep adding a little compost at a time until the compost reaches the top of the barrel.then keep watering till the haulms start dying back,then cover the bin and leave till Christmas.
When i tip mine out i leave it in a heap,for use the next year.
The OTHER barrel i use for composting
,but don't give up hope ,i have seen tatties grow in fresh compost before,so go for it.
Next year,use the same compost for growing your tatties for a second year ,adding nutrients as you use it..
The third year you can use the next batch of compost,mixing the old stuff into the garden.lol
Fred is off into the garden early this evening to get the first 14 buckets ready for planting,7 brussel,and seven cauli.,so ,i will let you know how i get on.
By the way all you peeps putting tatties in the ground ,or compost for the first time,please do NOT add lime to the soil,it causes scab on the potato skins.
The tattie is still usable,but nothing is worse than baking a jacket ,that looks like it has bubonic plague lol.Fred.
