My parents bought me a signet ring for my 16th birthday and have been into town with Lissy today and got her one for her 16th and when it comes back from being sized will get her initial engraved on it.
Not all jewllers sell them so they must be going out of fashion.

Am I just old fashioned in wanting to get her one?

My husband had a signet ring for his 21st, he gave it to our son when he was 18, he still wears it.

Dawnie,

I had a signet ring for my 21st from my parents. It was made out of my grandmother's wedding ring. Sadly I don't wear it anymore as it only just fits my little finger, but it is in my treasures box for the hoped for granddaughter, some day!

Couldnt give her my signet ring which isnt engraved as having two daughters wouldnt of been fair.

At one time I used to wear my mums signet ring but gave her it back for fear of losing it when my fingers swelled up and couldnt wear rings anymore.

My parents gave me signet ring when I was twelve years old. I am in my fifties now and still wearing it. It was too big when I first had it and there used to be a band inside the ring to make it smaller. I remember this because the soap used to get trapped inside it.

Puss

must be can only get wedding ring on now and sometimes that has to come off till they go down a bit have a permanent mark on that finger where it cuts in.

Hate not wearing it and hate not being able to wear engagement and eternity rings.

Right hand used to have signet ring and another saphire and diamond ring and also a silver ring. Lissy has now got the silver ring and it fits her and others are just in box.

Its charm bracelets my family buy for an 18 yr old girl, then the other family members buy charms for it.

I have a silver one when I was 10 then a gold one when I was 18, but the silver one is my fave as it was from both my parents.

I had - and still have - a signet ring bought as a Christmas present by my parents the year I was 16. I still wear it to this day and the initials are still clear. I was 16 in 1956 and the other day I was looking at the hallmarks on my various bits of jewellery to see what year they were made etc - pathetic |I know, but I had nothing better to do !! I looked at the one for my signet ring expecting it be about 1955 or 1956 but no - it was made in 1940, some 16 years before it was bought for me - and here's the queer thing, it was made the year I was born. I think it was 'made for me' !!!

We don't do signet rings as such in our family, but Mum and dad let my brother, sister and I choose a ring for our 16th. Sister chose a sapphire and diamond one, I had a ruby and diamond one and brother chose a signet ring. Mum carried this through with the grandchildren - both girls and the boy chose diamond rings. My gt nephew's 16 later this year and he's already looking! AL
