How can I read an FTW file

You're right, it needs to be a gedcom file.

Do you have a free ancestry account? I'm sure I've read on their site that you can download Family Tree Maker files up to 75mb. You may want to check it out. However, I would make sure that no one else can read it by keeping it private.

A distant family contact has sent me their family tree in a 3MB FTW file. I believe this is a Family Tree Maker format. Unfortunately I don't have Family Tree Maker software. Is there any other way of accessing the information in this file? I don't really want to go back and annoy my contact by saying the information they were good enough to send is not useful to me in this format. Any advice appreciated.
