nothing it doesn't recognise cd's at all only dvd's

First off I would try updating the driver.

It may be that the driver has somehow become corrupted or it may just have given up the ghost - they do.
The good news is that new ones are cheap and easy to fit.
Is it an internal one?

anyone clever with these things........mine stopped working a while ago and it bugs me everytime I want to run a new application it refuses it is also a dvd player and will play that but no cd's.
