when we moved to our house 5 years ago i heard the foxes for the 1st time

made hubby go out in his boxers with a torch cos a thought a dog had been run over,

awful noise but I was it just them calling each other.

They live happily at the end of my garden, have had cubs every year since i've been here.

They cause me no problems apart from the cat getting ticks from rolling around in the leaves , freaked me out covered the poor thing with vasaline and dettol suprised he survived really,

any way frontline did the trick

would never shoot one although my brother does as he is a chicken farmer, my aunt would send the fox hunt the wrong way if she saw the fox 1st, said there were more humane ways of controlling them.

We have foxes here and the noise they make can be a bit scarey. My dogs always tell me when they are about. At the moment the mum of my pups goes mad if they walk within 200 yards of the house and she knows even if the dogs are indoors.
When the pups were first born around the middle of april the fox got really daring and came right up to the patio door. It must have known that there was a litter of new borns about (from the smell of the female's dogs urine) and thought that there might be an easy meal. Even when my husband when down stairs as Phoenix the mum was going crazy and the OH banged on the patio door the fox just sat and looked at him.
The cubs also make quite a lot of noise we have seen them running about across the road and in a neighbours garden last year.

Foxes are a pain they are brazen entreing the barns at lambing and have killed so many this year so my view on them is completly differant to city folk

lol Lilly if you sent your OH out with a touch every time you heard a noise out here he would never sleep

Lorraine

Lorraine Report 17 Jun 2008 00:52

well i'm not city folk, but i have a different view to you tory i'm afraid .

I have lived in the country...and got used to night time noises..owls..birds tweeting..foxes..
I would rather that, than city noises..helicopters..police cars and ambulances chimimg..which I now sleep through!

Lorraine Report 17 Jun 2008 00:57

If i was farming then i would probably have a different view of it as i say my brother does shoot them as they kill his chickens, and geese, and shooting is the most humane way.

but they cause me no problems so i leave them alone.

X Lairy- Fairy Report 17 Jun 2008 01:02

i do think its cruel to kill them
i know they are a pain and it probably has to be done .
but if they eat chickens or whatever its their way of survival, just like what we eat its our way
arrr poor little things (they r a pain but i stil feel sorry for em and i feed em and i feed em good lol)

I have heard of them in urban areas taking cats and kittens and of course rabbits. I have a friend who has now got some rabbits as his cousin lost two to the foxes and did not have a garage to secure them in.

~~~foxes are carnivores at the end of day..they furrage for food..they have equal rights to living too..
It will always be debatable regarding shooting them..but this has happened for generations..If I had a happy fox family living at the bottom of my garden I wouldnt have a prob..if they were eating my livelihood..its a different story..
Its all part of the food chain..
