Does anyone have the experience of a loved one with this problem? My husband was diagnosed last year and has six monthly check ups, the next one due on 30th June and I am very concerned that it will have got bigger and need surgery sooner rather than later.
Any advice or reassurance gratefully received

If it has grown and he does need surgery it should not be a problem because it can be done in a planned way. The real problem with aneurysms is when they are undiagnosed and they begin leaking, that is an emergency and the patient will not be in such a good physical condition to start with so the potential for problems with surgery increase.

I'm sorry Carolyn... I can't offer any advice all I can tell you is a friends husband had an operation a year ago and is doing absolutely fine. It took him a few months to get 100% fighting fit again but he is doing great.

Carolyn, I am so happy your o/h is still around with this, please take all advice from the doctors.

My 17 yr old nephew died last year from this, previously undiagnosed, and my friend's father the same about 5 yrs ago. I really don't want to be alarmist and I may delete this comment if it causes upset.

However, clearly your o/h is being looked after so hopefully all will be well for him. If he's been diagnosed then clearly he is already in a much better position. All the best, please tell me how he gets on. xxxx

Only have experience as a nurse, and can only agree with Jane, in saying that having surgery for this as a planned procedure is of course safer. It seems that your husband is being carefully monitored, so just go with surgeons advice.

Thank you all for your replies. Kevan had a triple heart bypass 11 years ago and is doing great. We no longer live in the uk and it was during one of his frequent check ups here in France for his heart that this problem showed up. I am grateful that we dont live in uk anymore as in the 6 years after his op in England he was never given any follow up appointments after his 6 week post op check. He does have a brilliant cardiologist and cardio vascular surgeon so I am sure that he will be ok. I think I just needed reassurance from the good people on here.

For the good people who replied to my thread on 17th June
My husband had his appointment with the cardio vascular surgeon today and the really good news is that it has not grown at all since his last check up and now the dr does not want to see him for a year. We are both so relieved that we will probably have a glass or two tonight. I feel like a great weight has lifted off my shoulders.... for now at least
