	Seat and lid should both be down before flushing as the spray goes 10 foot in the air, well that is what i was told by daughter Valxxx

	You really should flush with the lid down. When you flush, the water and bacteria are ejected into the air, where it lands on everything in the bathroom, including your toothbrush. Yuck! Flushing with the lid done prevents the spread of E. Coli. Rose

Oh the history of the toilet seat is it was an addition for women. Original toilets didnt have one. I will "stand" corrected.

	Seat and lid down as much as is practical, hate the thought of germs spreading and if there is a fly about it could transfer bacteria from loo seat etc to elsewhere in the house, e.g. downstairs to the kitchen - ugh! I once read no toothbrush should be left within 6 feet of the loo, or the germs will get to it from the flush. I always keep mine in bathroom cabinet so closed away. Lizx
