Errol thank you for your reply sorry took so long to answer afirend offerd to fix it for me but hubby said its not advisable to take it over to england in suit case as customs can be very funny so will have to try someone over here

A crashed hard drive does certainly NOT mean all is lost. Over the years I have had hard drives die many-a-time but have not lost the data.
It depends what the actual problem is with the drive - it may be physical such as the drive heads or it may be more of a data problem such as the boot sector. Either way, and for varying costs, it is very often possible to retrieve the data.

hubbys just said its the hard drive that crashed and cant use any more,but it seems shame all photos lost

I don't know what he did Errol I would have to ask Angie, I know she still has the old hard drive somewhere.

we dont have shop like that as we live in small villiage here in the nederlands i,ll let my hubby see this as i dont have clue and thank you

It depends what the BT engineer actually did but data is very often recoverable.
For example, if you accidentally delete a file you can easily retrieve it.
Even if you reformat a drive it is still possible to recover the although this is a little more tricky and not guaranteed.
I know of instances where hard drives have been in a fire and the data has still been retrieved.

That is interesting Errol cos a friend of mine lost everything from her hard drive the bt engineer apparently erased the lot - is this still recoverable even though she had to buy a new hard drive.

You could try an external housing or if you have a friendly local computer shop they may help you out - don't go to the big boys because they are a rip off.
Most hard drives can be recovered, or at least the data they hold - why do you think computer forensics is so successful these days?

When I had redundant hard drives, I bought a external hard drive housing, I put the old drive in there and read/use it from there.......works from a usb port..

awhile ago my hubbys pc went of could,nt get it going but its the hard disc its got all the family photos on and he dos,nt no what to do have bought him new pc the other one is working but its got new har drive in it,thank you
