Hi Puss, we cope by keeping on keeping on, and some days we have a good laugh at ourselves. Without humour, life could be quite devastating.
I so hope you'll be able to find the right help, we use other modalities as well as the traditional ones. Although much of my stress is situational, I've had clinical depression since I was 7 years old and know what works and doesn't for me. Appropriate vitamin support especially the B's is essentil for me. B is the vitamin one burns off, when stressed, it also contributes to a healthy blood haemoglobin, so to me it's the most essential. I take a multivite to include the mineral support, plus a B100 supplement which provides 100mg of each of the B's. In addition I take extra B6, & Vitamin C. I take calcium for my bones with magnesium, plus Vitamin D which helps the absorption of the calcium.
I also had a lot of help from a book called "potatoes not prozac", which basically helps us recognise how foods affect the way we feel. the author is Kathleen DesMaisons PhD.
Sending lots of positive caring your way,
hugs
Mary

Oh my heart goes out to you and David.
Please see the autism.ADHD thread, which also encompasses aspergers.
I would guess part of the problem is that there is more than one issue, it's more than aspergers, it's mental health as well.
Anyon who's listentened to me rattle on, knows I have 4 grabdchildren, two with autism, and one with ADHD. But I also have an adult daughter age 38 who has fallen through the cracks for most of her life.
We believe she is aspergers,(especially with history of the ASD spectrum in the family) but has only ever officially been diagnosed with learning disabilities, and depression latterly.
She is a sweetheart on the good days.
She has never received appropriate counselling, because the depression support only addresses the one issue, and her comprehension doesn't allow full understanding.
I hope you will be able to find the right help, it's never too late.
sending lots of hugs.

i got david a collie he seems a lot happier he has some thing to focus on, id heard dogs and kids with aspergers can be very theraputic , de de the dog is at his side all the time and he likes that , still waiting for the mental health team to contact, david had a set back yesterday that could of resulted in him tying to take his life again, but de de was there so he did'nt , de de is the name my younest used to call him as she couldn't say david, so it really shocked me he chose that nname, as he tried to kill natalie several times when she was little and he hated her with a passion untill last year any i deas xx

Puss, sorry you are having so much difficulty getting David the help he needs, and sad that he is so low at the mo.
I don't want to be a wet blanket but don't pin too much hope on help from Mental Health people unless yours are better than in Norwich. I have been fighting for help with my ocd for 14 years and still nothing, get assessed and told different things, sent away to find my own counselling etc etc. It is a non stop battle and as you say, even more difficult when you aren't well yourself.
If you don't get the help you should, maybe it is worth talking to your local mp, and see if they can stir things up to get what is needed for David.
Good luck
Lizx

We have a step grandson aged 8 who goes to a special day school. Even then they change their minds like you change your drawers!! sometimes he cant speak cos he needs speech therapy, then he doesn't need speech therapy cos he has a short attention span and cant get himself around the sounds he needs to imitate ,in other words he doesn't co-operate!!.He is at school with some really handicapped kiddies who seems to spend their day in a wheelchair with no interaction with anyone. i sometimes think cos he has some interaction skills he is left to his own devices. He still poos himself about 5 times a day but still cant get to why,the pediatrician just says he doesn't go all in one GO!!! because he likes the feel of the poo as a comfort blanket . WELL daughter doesn't fancy having him laid down on the floor so she can clean him up at aged 15 plus!!.
Yes he has a syndrome NO they cant put a name to it but we know it does have autistic tendencies cos he lines up his cars , doesn't like loud noises ,and he doesn't like to be surprised with visitors ,he has to be told nanny & grandad .or whoever are coming to see on XXX day or evening. SO if us lay people can see it why cant the doctors
