I need a new machine. Do you have a reliable one that you'd recommend?
OH will look at online reviews etc. tomorrow but personal recommendation is always good to hear.

It must be energy efficient if possible and I'd like a delay timer so that I can make use of cheaper night-time electricity.
Last one was a Bosch which has served us well.

i have a hoover nextra and have had it 5 years

i have a whirlpool 6th sense washer and up to now touch wood its been great.

its lasted the longest so far, i wash for england with 3 kids.

the great thing is it has a 30min quick wash,

Be careful of the 'economy wash' options. I have a Hoover - the 'economy wash' is cold and it doesn't do a half load!!!! Other than that it's energy efficiency is excellent !!!

i think the best is Bosch
but hubby at the time was a hoover engineer so i got the hoover and at a cheeper rate the perks of the job wow pms lol.

I saw a Whirlpool on offer somewhere today, was on a tv ad, might have been Bennets.

K bought an Indesit off my friend when she sold her holiday home here, and it works well.

I will take your comments on board when it comes to deciding and look out for special offers too.

I really miss the use of a machine. I don't mind hand washing some things but can't cope with bedding and towels etc. for 5.
Old machine has been great but would be uneconomic to spend much on now because at the end of the day it's still an old machine and something else would 'go' before long. I certainly don't replace just for the sake of it.

Hi Gwyn, I have a Miele. It has a delay timer and is really quiet. Had it 4 years and it has never broke down on me. There are seven of us.

Bosch - second best - best apparently is Miele, but very expensive
Best in fridges also is Bosch - a refrigeration engipneer told me that

Had my Bosch for three years now - no probs - it's a washer/dryer

I swear by AEG myself, but again they are expensive.

I have a Bosch Washer, Fridge Freezer and Dish Washer, and (touch wood) they are all very good.

As Ann of Green Gables said Miele is best, but expensive.

Have had Hoover Washers, and Indesit Dish Washers, but like the Bosch best.

Have a Whirlpool, seems to do a good job, had it two years now.
Miele are supposed to be very good, some friends have one and a Miele dishwasher, there argument was they did ones that filled from the hot as well, they couldn't see my argument of how far it was between the hot water tank (on the roof, solar heating) and the machines, by the time they have filled up the hot is only just coming through. Our cold water isn't cold anyway, about 20deg so even after a cold rinse clothes still feel warm.

My parents have an indesit and they DISlike it a lot. Make sure you get one with a good spin speed too or it'll end up sopping wet still like there's LOL. Definitely shop around for the best deal though you'll be surprised at how much cheaper you can get it when you do. I got my cooker (a hotpoint) for £120 cheaper from dixons online than it was from Comet...(if you're canny you can find discount vouchers for online shopping) didn't even have to wait as long.

My 25 year old Hoover twintub belongs in a museum!
Shes called old faithful and has cost me £3 for one belt!

I have a secondhand Indesit that i got off ebay

delighted with it - has time delay if needed and does a 'quick' 30 min wash ...........

Have you tried asking a local service man/engineer which they have the most problems with ???

Had a Hotpoint door fell off and flooded the kitchen
replaced with another Hotpoint that leaked like mad now on an AEG which does the job and has a quick wash for stuff that just needs a fast freshen up

Well mine is an exceptional model had it for over 50 years,very expensive to run though, but thoroughly reliable.
Wants holidays on a regular basis.

I have a Hotpoint Aqualtis .it is a new model and has a slightly larger drum.It is supposed to take a double Duvet.
So far I have been very pleased with it.Good luck with whatever you choose.It's a real pain to be without one.

I also have Miele,,,never had nothing go wrong with it, ,,,,but Hotpoint are the cheapest for repairs,

Bosh are pretty good on reviews,,

Dec 1995 my washer died -OH had jst retired. Remembered Candy had good reputation and were cheap. Took a chance - Last December I bought a Candy washer drier but passed on my Candy washer 12 yrs old and going strong to freecycle.
