Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 20 Jun 2008 03:52

On Monday, it was the inquest for Gary Ling who died in our river after a night out, earlier this year, the latest of several lads lost to alcohol and the river. The Coroner said it was accidental death while under the influence of alcohol.

At the weekend before the inquest, another young man went missing after a night out at the same nightclub area. He was with his 39 yr old father, in Norwich to celebrate his coming birthday before going back to Peterborough where he lived with his mother and stepfather. At 5.15am on Sunday morning he stepped outside the club to have a cigarette and was not seen again by his father. He would have been 20 on Monday.

Yesterday, Thursday, his body was found a short distance outside the city centre under electricity pylons. Another family distraught, and who will probably never know what happened in those last hours of their loved one. He apparently had been seen around the city, near a squat and asking directions for the station, and in a different area too. So, not the river this time, but alcohol related by the sounds of things. What a waste of a decent, working lad, loved by his family and friends, many of whom were searching the city for him since his disappearance on Father's Day.

How can we get it through to youngsters that drinking too much alcohol so you don't know what you are doing or where you are, is not a good idea?
Rest in Peace Aaron, and Gary, Paul, James and Nick.

Hi Liz, such a shame with these youngsters. Heard about this on the news, again. Unfortunately there is nothing anyone can do. They will go out & have too much alcahol, trouble is the alcahol they drink now is so much stronger than it was when we were younger & they seem to drink more of it. Don't know what the answer is. Feel so sorry for the families left behind.
RIP all of them.

Government has a lot to answer for with the licensing laws, pubs open all hours, and then on to night clubs.

I wish the youngsters knew how they were damaging their health.

I feel so sad for the parents and partners of those that have died.

I expect more will be revealed after the weekend but it said on the news there were no suspicious circumstances. So sad if he really was around in the city for a while before he ended up at Trowse, a small villlage on the outskirts of Norwich, in walking distance, and no one found him. On a website where people had a board up about him and were asking people to look out for him, it was said he hadn't drunk more than a few pints, and cctv showed him walking ok and not staggering.
I try to talk to my own son about too much alcohol and what it is doing to his body long term, but he just poohpoohs it. I am sure he and his mates stick together when they are out and about tho, I keep saying it to him, but in one ear and out the other!
I keep thinking about the family of this lad.
There is another one missing in Gt Yarmouth and the police have had a tip off that he has been murdered, have interviewed and bailed three people there, but no body has been found yet and his family are searching for him with posters etc in the hope he can be found alive.
What a world!
