Personally I would do away with it, especially for youngsters under 14 years...It is obvious that no one is going to benefit from it...
My grandson age 12half brought homework home - "Find out as much as you can about ancient Egypt (via the internet), the kid printed out 6 A4 sheets, the 'teacher' didn't even look at them.. The following week - "Find out what you can about gas warfare in World war One"..(even gave the kids some web sites).. What the heck happened to all the years between ancient Egypt and World War One.??????.. Youngsters are leaving school in their droves hardly able to add 2 and 2.. The kids' homework - "Algebra".. What the heck are these kids gaining from it all..... Guess what ?? I'm as mad as hell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree John, My friends who are not computer literate, have their grandson stay with them from time to time. He keeps telling them to get a computer, so he can look up the homework he has been given, and the web site the school has given him.
My friends do not want to buy a computer, let alone go on line. They have bought the boy books on the subjects, and his grandad has told him to do what he had to - look it up in the books.
We told them that he could copy and paste, and that way would not be learning.

I think the theory behind it is that kids work differently on their own as opposed to a classroom environment where there are many distractions.
