Do you know WHY you hate cauliflower? ;)

You're a taster -- or maybe a supertaster.

Do you like dark chocolate but not milk? Can you taste aspertame? Classic taster symptoms!

Tasters taste "bitter" in a way we non-tasters don't.

Have you tried cauliflower lately? Bitter veg are being bred to be less bitter (who was just telling me that about eggplant -- or aubergines, if you prefer?).

Brocolli is less bitter than it used to be. But my taster friend still can't stand cauliflower.

Me, I'm a non-taster. I hate dark chocolate. Put me on an island with milk chocolate and a month later you'd have to roll me off. Dark chocolate, and I'd be decomposing by the time you came back.

Oh, and of course liver. And any kind of fish except canned tuna and fish&chips with lots of ketchup and vinegar. And cherries.

I agree on the avocado pears - just looking at them make me feel queasy. I know so many people who love them.

another one for avocados - horrid slimy things yeuch!

worse than that is honey though - I can't be in the same room, the smell literally makes me heave (sorry!)

also loathe melon although the rest of the world seems to love it!

I like spinach but it makes me feel woozy (doc did explain why but I have forgotten!) so I have to really avoid it.

I'm also a marmite-hater!

That's interesting Kathryn. I've just googled it and you may be right, then again i may just be fussy :-)

With cauliflower, I always thought it was the texture that I disliked most, however, i don't like the taste and can tell when it's in the food I eat.

I avoid broccoli for the same reason as well but I can tolerate broccoli if it's not overcooked and will eat it if it's chopped up in a veggie burger or another meal.

I don't like dark chocolate either because it's too bitter.

I don't drink coffee because it's bitter. I don't like cooked cabbage or sprouts although I do like them raw or stir fried.

However, I do like sharp tastes. I think lemon is very sharp but I love it.

I used to hate cauliflower when I was a child and didn't try it again until I was about 30. I like it now and broccoli is just about my favourite vegetable.

I hate anything with an aniseed flavour or liquorice.

I don't like egg white. I can eat scrambled egg and omelettes but the texture of a fried or boiled egg white is something I can't face! I used to hate jelly when I was a child because of the wobble!

I love Marmite and lemon flavoured things are great.

LIVER yuk!!! cant stand the smell, colour, feel of it, when I was at catering college we were cooking with it and I refused to handle it, my chef got both my hands and pushed them into a big bowl of the stuff, I puked up there and then on the kitchen floor then passed out. He was really sorry afterward and so he should be too.

Isn't that weird about dark chocolate? I don't like it because it's bitter -- but I'm a nontaster.

Apparently what it is, is that tasters are very sensitive to sweet. It's the sugar in milk chocolate that turns them off.

Wouldn't that be wonderful ... to be turned off by sugar ...

My best friend and I have cooked dinners for each other for years. It's always a challenge. She likes fish and eats her meat rare; fish makes me puke and I like my meat nicely cooked, thank you. I love extremely hot and spicy; she can't eat it. For dessert, I'd take my grandmother's rhubarb pie with its white sugar custard base and its brown sugar crumble and eat it til I was ill; she wants some thing that tastes to me like eating cardboard with paste and paint on it -- yeah, a chocolate éclair. Bleah.

Hey Mama Rambo. ;) I decided to make chicken liver pâté once, for some bizarre reason. The recipe said to blend the chicken livers, in a blender.

What it didn't make clear is that you're supposed to cook them first.

Bad enough to look at. Try cleaning that blender after.

My dislikes have to be butter beans, broad beans, baked beans, lentils, pearl barley, pudding rice, semolina, parsnips, turnips.......I eat most of everything else.........don't really eat puddings or sweet things and dislike dark chocolate......so much so that my Uncle gave me a big box of dark chocolates after I had a baby, and I passed them all round the ward.......they thought I was great giving away all that chocolate.....
