try this, place some negatives on the bed of the scanner, place a sheet of white paper over them to hold them steady( and to reflect light) scan them, save them to desktop(so you can find them easily)
and with paint, photoshop or most photo programs edit them, turn them right way round,/up.
and INVERT the image, you should now have a reasonable positive, image...then name/title each one...

PS colour negatives may need special treatment.

Oh well Joy I don't have nothing like that but I have paid for the CD now. Just wish I knew where I could maybe have got them done a bit cheaper but my mum was worth it paid it out of the money I had for my birthday so won't miss it

margaret mine is a epsom rx600

its large and free standing

you can use it with our without a computer

and you get a plastic frame to put your negatives in

before you print them out

i think you put them in the scanner bit first

but as i said ive never used it

I am not casting doubts on your computer skills - I just think it is outrageous for a shop to charge that much for a simple 5 minute task. I hate being ripped off myself and hate seeing it done to others.

Eldrick i have only got a HP F2100 all in one printer and scanner so it it would not be good enough to do what yours does. I am only a amateur

Your scanner needs to be able to do it....that means it should have a negative/slide holder and a light source in the lid with a diffuser attachment.

What is the make and model of your scanner?

IMHO £20 is outrageous for 8 negative scans. It would take me all of 5 minutes to do that and burn them onto a CD.

Eldrick Well maybe I would not have bothered but I know they were all of my mother. How do you do them on a scanner? would you please tell me so that I can try with the others that I did not take I know these were at least over 50 years old

Oh dear. That is extortion.

I use an epson scanner, cost around £130 new, and I have scanned around 3,000 negatives using it, all to high resolution.

Hi I took some of the negatives to a shop this morning not all of them they are putting them on a CD for me it cost £20 that was for 8 negatives.

I tried doing on my scanner printer but could not do it might if I had been a bit more clever on a computer than I am. Thanks Margaret

Yes my scanner can do that, Johnathon, although I have never tried it! But any photography shop will do it for you Margaret, I have had it done with both negatives and those little things (forget what they're called) that you looked at through a viewer...like slides.

You can get your own printer that takes negatives - sorry if someone has already said this I havent read all the posts (slaps hand) I have an epson printer scanner for my complicated bits and it reads photos direct from memory cards or negatives you can then download direct to your pc and then decide which ones to print.

Joy what printer have you got I don't think mine would be good enough but I will look through the paper work
