OH says it `s Governments fault as a lot of them are in the mining areas and they automatically got it , I don`t know how they did as I thought you had to have a sickline for that benefit ,

I no longer have to give in Drs Sick Note but do have to have a medical regularly to make sure I still cant work.

Dawnie -I`m sure it`s mostly men and I wasn`t getting at you or anyone else on these benefits intentionally, just saw it on the news, Ros xx

I don't object to anyone who is incapacitated getting benefits.................it's the ones with families who never attempt to work and all live off the state that make me so angry.

Near us are two families who are in the second generation of being workshy now................not one of them has ever worked, yet they all have houses, cars and mobile phones and take at least one holiday a year.

I agree Kitty , the children see their parents and grandparents out of work so don`t try to get a job. A teacher friend of ours told us a tale--one of his pupils was absent and he asked why -answer "-Had to watch wee sister while mother signed on , she signs on at 5 different places, sir "

Kitty I totally agree. We have two work-shy members of the family claiming incapacity, have reported them twice, nothing done.

Jane is on incapacity bnefit and has a medical every year.

She had her 2nd medical 2 months ago and was told she wouldn't hear for another year.

She has just received a letter to attend the local job centre for an interview. Goodness knows what job they think she can do.
What a joke.

It's a shame they don't crack down on the workshy instead of the chronically sick but I expect honest people make easy targets.

It makes my blood boil that my hard earned cash goes to fund the Institutional Wasters who can't be bothered to get off their bums, whilst those who REALLY need support have to struggle.

I would also add, that I have worked my arse off for nearly 40 years and now that I am now an a early retired pensioner (no state pension or handouts for me) and am expected to manage on what we have scraped together for our old age.

Given the current economic crisis I only hope that there will be a huge fall to the ground for many who have been creaming from us hard working tax payers over the past ten years.

I could not agree more. If you are so dependent on state handouts, then sorry, no sky tv, holiday, car nor mobile phone, in my opinion.

My OH was diagnosed with cancer last year, he eventually went on to incapacity benefit and was told he had to go to the office for a back to work interview even though his job was being saved for him, they said he may have wanted to change his job, and if he had not gone would have lost his benefit.

Earlier this year he went back to work he is doing part time to start with after three weeks he was back into hospital, if we wanted to reclaim benefit they wanted us to fill in a form 40 pages, send birth cert and marriage cert even though they had all the info.

We did not bother to claim.

I must be doing something wrong cos we only get by on my incapacity and hubbies little wage (hes self employed doesnt earn enough to pay tax but would rather be out earning a little than claiming anything) and dont have holidays unless its camping for a few nights which is now out of the window because I cant manage it now, dont have sky or cable and I have a little car that I did just over 3000 miles in the last year. My mobile is pay as you go and if I have no money to pay for top up I cant have it.

Am only having holiday this year as parents have paid for it to give us a break as we have had a bad year with my condition.

Would love to be able to go to work rather than be stuck with these 4 walls as I dont have energy to go out and other human conversation would be nice thats why I love being on here.

Now shall we do the governments job for them and find a good way of weeding out the benefit cheats.

I too have no problem at all that our taxes help those who are ill, thats what a caring country should be about.

But like many others it is soul destroying to work hard, have to pay all your own bills then see families where the people are not ill but simply cannot be bothered to do anything, to hear them say ' we are off to Spain for 3 weeks' or see them in their brand new people carrier.

something is very wrong with the benefits system. There was a case in my area last week where a man was claiming incapacity but was working on the rigs!!

There was a case in Scotland recently -a lady who lost her job in the police due to illness , I think , she got another job , had a husband and 2 kids and was claiming benefits as a single mother when her and hubby`s earnings were £50, 000. She paid back the £25, 000 by selling her house or she would have been in jail .It took the authorities 2 years to catch her out. Ros xx
