I found some writing in biro on youngests new (to her) Cabin bed.

I called both girls in to see it and asked them to tell me the truth........who did it?

Both strenuously denied it and blamed the other.......

On closer inspection I saw that there was a back to front e ....so that implicated the youngest and some very formed and correct letters.........that implicated eldest. Confronted with this they sheepishly admitted they both did it and were suitably upset....mostly at being found out initially then at the fact that I made it clear I was very disappointed in them.

I was furious with them for not only writing on the bed but mostly for fibbing to me about it so their punishment was.....no beach today.......the highlight of their week.

Just spoke to my Dad who reckons I was too harsh.......hmmmmmm.......lol. I'm curious. I stand by my punishment no probs. Just wondered how everyone else would deal with this out of interest. xx

Not harsh at all, I dislike being fibbed to.

Muffy

i agree with yourpunishment hits them where it hurts, hopefully they'll think twice before doing it again?

I can take it when the kids misbehave but i can't stand lying and they know it, their punishment is ALWAYS worse if they lie and I find out about it!!! tho as mine are now gettingolder their lying skills are getting better.
Don't they keep you on your toes?

You had to put your foot down or they will do something worse next time. Grandad is going soft in his old age, I bet he wouldnt have been the same with you! Jean

Maria Report 22 Jun 2008 19:48

I agree with you. Not too harsh, and maybe they will remember fromt his that it's not good to tell mummy a fib - a great lesson for when they're a bit bigger.

Wonder, what your dad would have said to you if you'd done it when you were their age?

I think you did the right thing.................if they hadn't known it was wrong to write on the bed, they would both have owned up straight away.

And your Dad should back you up on the punishment too....................hope he doesn't tell them Mummy was wrong to stop them going to the beach *tuts*

Then again...............grandad's are always a soft touch, bless him:))

I think you were perfectly reasonable - and I bet they'll think twice about writing on furniture and/or lying to you again!!!

My Dad is the same though - he was super strict with me and my brother and sister, but he is a lot more forgiving with my girls. He says that's the good thing about being a grampy!

Muffyxx Report 22 Jun 2008 19:53

lololol. You've all hit the nail on the head. He IS going soft in his old age!!!

I would've been given the silent treatment for at least a fortnight (god I hated that !!!) plus removal of pocket money PLUS no beach.

He wouldn't tell them he disagreed with me.....my Mum would shoot him lol (she agrees with me) xx

Muffy.

*****as a grandparent I'm outraged at your harsh treatment:}}
,our little grandchildren can do nothing so seriously wrong and they didnt mean it,,, really,***

now as a parent,,you did what you thought was the best way your tots will learn in that not only did they deprive themselves of an outing but the whole family by their actions, lying wont be tolerated.

If it had been washable Val I would've made them do it but I had to sand it down and revarnish it they'd kind of scored it.....little s*ds !!!

They were made to pick up the grass cuttings in the garden and put every last scrap into the bin though instead lol xx

Sound appropriate. Main thing is to stand by what you decided.

In my day, a sharp smack on the back of the leg reinforced the imposed punishment, but then that is not allowed now.
