The time would have been the mid 1930's...not sure how far back local news archives go but you're right, it's a starting point. Thanks to all

Like Helen said I am sure the local paper would gladly do a story on it and maybe someone who knew who the gentleman was or is would come forward or maybe get in touch with him.

what year/decade are you talking about? How old was the driver at the time?

Good luck with your search.

I've actualky got a small clipping that my uncle gave me - doesn't tell much. I was thinking more of the fact that not many people in those days would have owned cars of any sort, let alone a Roller.

I think the hospital was Watford Memorial Peace Hospital, or something like that...

Could you contact the local paper for that area? They may run the story as a local interest type of thing?

When he was a teenager my dad was involved in a freak accident. he was camping with a couple of friends up at Elstree when a cow knocked over a paraffin lamp that was outide the tent. It set fire to the tent, my dad's mates got out and believed he had too. It was only when they heard him yelling in panic that they realised he was still inside.

After they got him out he was badly burned, and they ran to get help, They were fortnunate enough to flag down a passing motorist - a well-to-do chap in a White Rolls Royce, who took them all to hospital in Watford.

Now here's the thing - to his dying day my dad had no idea who the mystery driver was. In these days of the internet, I feel sure I could find out a bit more and maybe even contact the feller's family to pass on my thanks for him possibly saving my dad's life.

Any ideas where i could go with this search?
