TY..Susan..will keep that in mind..perhaps my `drive` is not like others..I am curious yes....
but to go trapsing round graveyards...churches..record offices..and (if lucky)..find ancestors..I do not think I will be that much in `awe`...i.e..Ive been to catherdrals..momentus places with crypts with amazing history..I read the `blurb`..half hr later..Im thinking what to have for tea..!...I live for the moment I guess is what I am saying...the Heree..the Now..this moment...My ancestors are not going to change anything...

this is my humble opinion...I do not judge anyone that goes out there finding clues..history..their past..Good luck!...

Not necessarily Lily.....some people haven't a hope in whatsaname cos the parish records have been destroyed....whoever they might be.....if they were in trouble for any reason, whether they were gentry or not, chances are, it will be recorded.

Gentry and Royalty do have a better chance of having a lineage that goes further back, as well as land owners ( recorded ) but searches in records offices as well as some online sources do throw up the odd gem even of the lowest of the low as well as some brick walls that cannot, supposedly, be broken down.

~~~basically Susan..if we were `common as muck`..we dont stand a chance of finding..where we have come from...you had to be gentry..or owned land..or royalty....Mmmm back to drawing board..~~

Not sure which one of us you are speaking to Lily but in my case it is only because they owned land, which would have been recorded, or were of of the gentry, who were also recorded....then there are the others who were shot and hung...who were recorded.

There are other ways.ie:....bastardry acts etc...but all recorded a for some reason or other........if your ancestors were just yer ordinary goody two shoes.....no chance :-)

Yeah, got them *all* back to 1635, but lots of them back earlier than that.

As I mentioned a while ago, Eldrick the merciless
(from where I take my screen name, obviously) ruled the Northumberland Fenlands in the 3rd century AD. I have gone back further, but the earlier ones have to be treated with a bit more caution, especially the ones from the middle east area, they probably need more research but I am content with what I have now.

I mean, 75,326 names is a lot in just one tree.
