I remember MiL telling me about their cat which they had brought up from London in 1952, he was called Paddy Paws.......they had moved into a new council house in Hemel and all the neighbours were new on the estate.....

.....she let Paddy out, and when he came back he had a whole big fish in his mouth......someones dinner that he had pinched........she said she never found out whose fish it was.....

Reading all the names of your cats got me to thinking about all the cats that have been in my life. The first was Timmy, who was a normal tabby cat, he liked to eat and sleep. Then there was Candy a tortiseshell, a pretty sweet little girl. Then Maude, who was also sweet but sadly was run over. We then started to have rescue cats, thats when we started to get the oddballs. First of these was Maddie, she was grey and white. Maddie would not step outside the door in winter and in the summer she would not come in, my son built her a little house just outside the door and that is where she stayed in the summer. Next we had Flo and Duffy, the cat home told us they had always lived together and had to be homed together, not true, those cats didn't know each other! Flo would have been easy to home she was lovely, Duffy hated everything and everyone so they made up the story to get Duffy homed. Both cats lived with us for 10 years, they died a few months apart Duffy spitting at everyone to the last. We then had Magic, the cat with the painted nails and the riding whip, he was all black and very handsome a loving little boy. We had another cat Guinness, who sadly went missing and we have searched for him with no success. Guiness was always getting thrown out of the supermarket near us, he would follow me down and then come in the shop behind me after a while he took to going into the shop by himself and was thrown out nearly every day. We now have Dizzy a very old red persian and Brian Basher the mental one.

Bluebell is such a pretty name for a cat......I'm afraid I don't have much imagination.......we had a black kitten as a wedding present from OH's young cousins and he was Sooty, then we had a white long hair to keep him company, and that was Snowy.....he lived to 21......then we had Jasper, who was a big soft long haired black/white cat and now we have Cassie who is 19.......and age is telling so much now......she has always been tiny, but she has arthritic paws, is deaf and batty......she goes outside through open doors, goes round the side of the house to another door and cries to be let in.....
She sleeps on our bed and wakes me in the early hours yowling to go out, and then I have to let her in again because she yowls again - I don't think she can hear herself........the vet says she is OK, so as long as she is eating and seems alright I am happy with that.......I dread when she finally goes because we won't have any more pets.......it is just too sad when they go......

Well Maggie we've got problems with our cats.
My husband says I give them personalities that I want them to have! Not true! I had one cat years ago that liked me to paint his nails when I did mine he also used to walk around the house with a riding whip in his mouth and the only cushion he would sleep on was a red velvet one. Now I didn't make him like that.

Okay Sheila - the one I brush is like that - doesn't like cuddles, but follows me to the loo, jumps up and is at her most affectionate (bar brushing) then!!!
She is also the result of a rescue cat (apparently spayed) being 'caught' LOL (mumsie got a bit psychotic - didn't like the kittens, peed UNDER my duvet, so she went back, I kept 3 kittens - theory being 1 friendly adult (and by now spayed ) cat is easier to home than 3 kittens)

Last night her brother - being 'frisky' tried to get behind a sideboard. I looked up to see him upside down - back legs & tail in the air - behind the radio.
After 30 seconds (of silent laughter) I decided to investigate - the stupid thing was stuck!!!
I had to haul him out LOL

I thought cats were meant to have some kind of intelligence about where they could go etc - surely that's the reason for whiskers.

I have thought he is playing out a previous life role he has another strange habit , he is not a boy who likes cuddles, however if he sees anyone heading for the bathroom he races to get in with them and while they are sitting on the loo he jumps onto their laps for a cuddle. I can't fit that into a previous life role.

Ooh Sheila - the furballs!!!!
He's definitely a 'case' LOL
Have you thought of giving him the contents of the vacuum cleaner to play with - maybe he could make himself a nest!!!

Sheila

Sheila Report 28 Jun 2008 03:06

Maggie,
my cat pulls less of his own fur when he has plenty of victims to choose from. I also thought he had an allergy or skin infection however his vet said no he was perfectly healthy and the vet had never heard of a cat pulling out other animals fur, oh! and he eats the fur of the other animals but does not eat his own. I brush him but he growls when I brush his sides.

Sheila,
One of my cats (the smallest physically) used to regularly pull her fur out, and cause horrible scabs to herself. Initially I thought she was allergic to something, but I started brushing her, which has made her more friendly and stopped her pulling her fur out.

The mice are out at night! I have 2 cats one a 12 year old red persian who is past his sell by date. He decided to adore my husband (something had to) he hangs onto my husband all the time and poor old hubbs can't stand cats. Number 2 cat came from a cat home and has mental problems. He plucks his fur, the vet says this is because of stress but that does not explain why he plucks every cat and dog he comes across. My collie and the persian are both nearly bald. The neighbourhood cats all do a runner when he goes out to play.
