Water is the usual, oil companies used it for finding oil(some still do),jewellry/precious metals, ley lines.........amazing what you can do with two bent coat hangers????????????
I did not put myself up to have the mick taken Kay,it's a genuine offer to Eldrick & I don't want his money or small children being scared in Harrods.

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 28 Jun 2008 14:37

OK. I can live with it, although I dont believe it and the oil companies etc doing it are a bit of an urban myth....this would be my proposal.

I have 10 wooden boxes. In one of them I place a precious metal object - a gold ring for example.

I do this when the dowser is in a totally different part of the building and under supervision both by a person and CCTV. There is also CCTV in the room where the boxes are.

They are spread out on the floor or a table.

The dowser enters the room and there are no persons in the room or on his or her way to the room. The experiment is viewed via a camera link and one other person, independent, in the room. This person does not know which box the ring is in. A clock is displayed on the wall and set to the same time as the recording software on the laptop being used to record it. No mobile phones, pagers, etc are allowed.

The test is repeated 10 times.

The probability is that, by chance, the dowser will be right twice.

To be accepted as evidence of true dowsing ability, they must be right 9 times out of 10. 8 times will give grounds for further tests. 7 times will lead to a repeat under similar conditions with different persons involved.

Anything less cannot be taken as convincing proof at all.

If the dowser really can do what he or she claims, then there is no reason why it shouldn't be 100% succesful every time.

How does that sound?

Eeyore13

Eeyore13 Report 28 Jun 2008 14:45

Fine-but the dowser does need to know what they're dowsing for otherwise I can't focus.
Can we take this onto pm please?I'm uncomfortable being critisised & don't like confrontation.I have no problem with people not believing but I don't set myself up for ridicule.Thank-you.

Kay???? Report 28 Jun 2008 14:49

I would like to see that remark removed please,ETS,where my name is put,and I did not say, what you have quoted,&,,I did not write, it ,,,I am stating a true fact what you can do with two pieces of wire, and the reaction will amuse,

Eldrick I can find metal ,with my detector, and because of its descriminator any metal,
you lost something then,?

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 28 Jun 2008 14:49

Absolutely, no problem there at all.

I dont think anyone is criticising, but np with PM's.

The dowser can be made aware and even shown the object beforehand, that is not a problem either.

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 28 Jun 2008 14:52

Hi Kay, I too have a metal detector.

I don't believe in dowsing, nor ley lines, but that doesnt mean it isn't real. I can live with being shown differently.

I've done the coathanger thing, and it works even better if you snap an old biro in half and use the case to put the 'handles' of the coathanger in. It goes really crazy then! Same with crystal pendulum, lol.

But I am willing to be proved wrong!

We did it at school in science excerise Eldrick,,kids love to have a go and see how the wire performs,,

Had any good finds with the hunts,?

I can bring mine when I come for the luxury weekend meet with H,:}}

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 28 Jun 2008 15:02

Yes, actually - and heres a real spooky one....

I went hunting on some farmland in the township where a load of my relatives lived up to the late 1800's.

I found the remains of an old pocket watch. When I got it home and cleaned it up, inside was the date 1858 and the name of my many times ggfather. It appears to have been made for him by his son who was an apprentice watchmaker - the hallmarks and makers marks are also visible.

How supernatural is that!

Apologies to Kay-but I don't do it as a 'Party Trick'?
That was never it's original purpose & I don't 'perform'

Fair comment-if thats how you feel.

Eldrick Report 28 Jun 2008 15:35

Anyway, Eeyore....I've just had a thought.

Why not submit what we have pretty much agreed to James Randi - and use this as the first protocol for his million dollar award? I'm pretty sure it would meet his specifications.

I would, of course, honour my promise regardless.
