Hi,
I did post a message concerning this earlier this year,but for some reason now I seem to have got myself lost. I have Family Tree Maker Prog on my Desk PC and now I have a laptop for when I go away, so I copied the Family Tree Maker Prog onto the Laptop....and sent myself a copy of the backup prog in my documents to a Flashdrive, but when I go to open the backup on my flashdrive....it comes up saying you cannot use a family file when it is on a removebale disc please use the following file to copy to your hard drive.
Please can someone explain as how I do this.

I'll reply here just so that it goes higher up the list again Wendy. I don't know but am sure that someone will be able to help as long as the thread sticks on page 1 so that it can be seen by those in the know.

FTM won't run if your tree data is on a flash drive, or other removable media.

All you need to do it to copy the data backup file from the flash drive back onto the pc's hard drive, and then it will work ok. Put it onto the desktop or create a folder for it, then just drag and drop to move it across to its new location.

Either way, when you open FTM the next time, you will need to browse for the file., so remember where it is saved. FTM will then remember its location so next time it will open automatically.
