Silly Sausage Report 2 Jul 2008 22:11

...............................................................................................

Do you ever find you are unable to express an opinion of any sort with fear you would loose that person/people friendship?

As on here or in real life, I know in the past on here when I have disagreed with someone its been held against me or as a result I have been ignored. I know on here its happen as in real life.

Have you ever held back to keep the peace ?. I am glad to say in both real life and on here I have a handful of friends I can be truly honest and say it as it is ( or I think it is) and know they are still going to there afterwards.

Hi Hayley
I dont hold back because Im worried about losing a friendship but I do sometimes because I've not wanted to hurt a friends feelings. Im really lucky with my friends I think because Ive known them all a long time & they accept me for what I am

I think most of us do at times. Sometimes to make life easier, sometimes not to hurt feelings. Lets face it if we spoke our minds all of the time we'd end up very lonely.

Hi Hayley, I've got a lot of acquaintances but not a lot of true friends because I speak my mind, can't help it, have to tell the truth and shame the devil, don't try to force my opinion on anyone, just say what I think or feel, I do agree with what you say both on here and in life in general

Sometimes it is good to hold back so that you can hear more of the other point of view, which,of course, can give you a bigger stick to beat them with!
(In view of another thread,a bigger stick with which to beat them.)

I am always open to listen...as a child and being the youngest I always sided with the one who was winning if the was fighting...lol

I am able to mind my P & Q's and really good now at ignoring things or not getting involved...lol

I think it's down to choice then Hayley - you can choose to respond with the truth, or you can choose to refrain from confrontation. What's the saying? discretion is the better part of valour?

Kay???? Report 2 Jul 2008 22:31

My friends in real life,we tell each other as it is in a none aggresive or condecending way and never offend if possible and still remain friends.

On here telling it like it is,is more difficult and you have to re-read the written word to see how at least two others will read it,so not appearing to riddicule.be rude, comeover as condesending or superior to others.
~~to Honest Hayley,

Ive spoken to some nice people on here & had some help with my tree, but I haven't got any friends on here so I'm not scared of offending anyone just by saying what I think

ButtercupFields Report 2 Jul 2008 22:50

aye that's right Hayley:-) But to be serious here for a moment, there were two occasions here on GR when I said, and not by any means in a rude way, what I thought. I considered the people I was speaking to would respond in an an adult fashion., and either agree or disagree and we would all toddle off into the sunset....lol...but to my astonishment I was, and still am, totally ostracised by these people and their friends for having an opinion. The fact tha they are not folks I would want to be friends with is neither here nor there...but it was a salutory lesson and I found that one is never too old to be astonished! lol BC XX
