HELP- AVG Free Edition wont update!!!!

Just updated ok. I haven't touched any settings so it does look like it was a glitch with their website.

Hello Reg,

Yes thank you I have got my AVG working again, Keith has helped a lot.

When you say go to tools- advanced settings and make sure box for link scanner is checked. I take it you mean to cick on Tools on AVG why would link scanner help?

Its wont do automatic updates just does them at a specific time.

Hi Keith,

Not sure if its sorted yet but the icon at the bottom of computer is back to normal colour yellow,blue,green and red.

It says there are no new updates too. so not sure if all updates have downloaded or not but its back on anyway.

Mine is fine now, I had the old 7.5 free version but have now gone on to the site and downloaded the free 8 it is working fine,now.
it did take a while to upload.

Now have the red exclamation mark and a box that says 'update result missing. Nit surprising when the update failed is it?? think I will ignore it and assume it is them.

Maz, the paid version has more bells and whistles to it, but as just an anti virus, the free version is good enough.

Just had two goes at downloading the large update. The second time it got nearly all the way through then the connection failed again.

I agree with Carol, it can leave some bits behind and it better to manually uninstall first.

Have just shutdown and restarted, avg update started and downloaded after a short delay, so all well again now.
Have you tried re-starting Betty?

Before you install the new FREE version 8 you have to uninstall the old version 7.5.

Have just updated and now it is not working, says some of the components are not working, to update, click on update and will not download anything! so seems like I am the same as you.
Now have black square with red exclamation mark.
