I always wanted to be about in the 60's I would of made a brill hippy plus theres a the free love which would of been a bonus lol

60's I am going for about 1967.....so I can dance round with flowers in my hair and wear short skirts...and do love ins...whatever they was...just souns fun...BC said.

me too - still have a fifties sack dress!! have no idea why I kept it - I'll have to try it on I think!

Mine the same as the two Anns.

But I did love the fashions of the late 1940's and 1950's.

1980's / 1990's - maybe that's because that's when I grew up, got married & had 2 (of 3) kids!!

I was going to say mine and then i read Ann's and realise my reasons were the same as hers although I was born 1940 a bit later.

For children the war and post was were not so bad, we didn't realise the struggles our parents had to find decent food, clothing etc. We had a lot of freedom, I used to play in the fields all day long with my friend when I was 8/9, no worries about paedophiles then although i do remember being told not to talk to men I didn't know.
looking back, life seemed so much simpler then. when we married there was not the pressure to buy all new furniture, it was accepted that you would have second hand and save for better later. We too lived in rented accommodation, then service accommodation for 18 months until we sold our car for the deposit on a bungalow .

I have to agree with Ann, my parents were born in 1933 and 1934, Mum had a very hard childhood, Dad not quite as much,

But they both said life was so much simpler and people were happier,

my era I think - born in 1936 - too young really to be frightened in the war, no TV to bring it into your home - played lots of games, read books, spent hours out in the fresh air from dawn to dusk playing with friends across the field and in the woods, playing in the brook and making dens. Vey few unmarried mothers in those days that I knew of, we all listened to our parents and didn't do "it". Saved up to get married, not a costly wedding, all within budget, was able to live in rented accommodation while we saved for a deposit on a house - took four years. You certainly coulnd't afford to rent and save these days. Stayed home when my son was born - no maternity leave in those days - went back to work part time till he was old enough for me to take full time work. Mortgage paid off long before retirement.
