to all who have built their tree partly from IGI records. I went to a records office yesterday to print out certificates, something I have done several times and the information I gathered tied in with the IGI, however yesterday I found that the two records I required were not there on microfilm as detailed on the IGI with regards to church and date. Incorrectly transcribed Church, name, date or what? Where do I go from here? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Was this post civil registration, 1837?

Are the people listed on the GRO index?

Hi CT

I've had a similar thing happen to me. Found records in the IGI (extracted ones) and then when I've ordered them from the RO they have said there is no record at all for the place and date! :-(((

it was after 1837, Gwyn, not sure about the GRO index, even though I've got an old membership number I'm still a 'newbie' when it comes to certain things! There was a baptism and a marriage certificate I wanted to look at on microfilm. I took details from familysearch.org but looked at all the quarters records, but didn't find what I thought would be there. Perhaps a different church / year?

thanks for your input Mary,it's not just me then!

As it's after 1837 you could check the marriage year and quarter on freebmd site

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

You might find the birth registration on there too, ....but that could possibly be long before a baptism.

If they aren't on that site, you could post names here and folk could check on Ancestry for you.

If it was a parish register it might just turn up in the Bishop's transcript.

thanks Gwyn, I'll check it out as well.
I think the problem comes down to people mis-transcribing things. I know from the past from looking at records for other people that things don't tie in. The microfilm I have been looking at contains several different Church records, perhaps I should sit myself down and go through all of them.

...and I think the lesson to all of us is dont necessarily believe what is on the Internet
