another thread....

Why is it assumed that to be alone (whether one is on on GR or not lol) is to also be lonely...sad...friendless... or generally have something 'missing' in life?

I can be with people or alone and enjoy both..I like being alone , with time to think ( not that it happens often lol) .

I have a family and am certainly not alone. I do like some time to myself and talking to others on t'internet is one way I use that time. I have virtual 'friends' all over the place and we talk about a vast array of subjects. I reckon the really alone person may well be the one who made the remark. ;)

must say I don't mind being alone either - found it hard after OH died but really have become quite used to it now and given a choice think I would prefer it - well me and my pussy cat anyway.

I never assume that.................now I can be lonely in a crowded room, but enjoy my own company.

But someone who hates being alone might assume being alone means just that.................friendless and lonely.

A personal opinion is just that I think.............personal to the one person who says it.

I love having time on my own and quite happy in me own company.

My friends on and off the net know sometimes I just like time to myself without talking to people if that makes me sad so be it but if you cant be happy in your own company who's can you be.

i suppose its how happy you can feel with your own company.I spend tooooo much time up in the small bedroom ,which is my study, on the PC doing look ups etc,OH is downstairs either listening to his music or watchingTV.i have often said to him that I would spend less time upstairs if he wanted me too ,but he says he is OK with me being on the PC cos he knows i am in the house and he doesn't feel he is alone. I guess for both of us it will be when we cant feel the others presence in the house. Altho I love doing the research etc I KNOW I would feel very alone if he was gone, and, probably drink too much vino!!

If you say you are alone..people tend to say...either 'lucky you' or 'aww poor you' lol

My aunt cannot bear to be alone and consequently spends a lot of time out and about , my best friend however loves it so she can just 'mooch about' at home doing as she likes. (mindyou she does have a dog! and always think that makes a difference!)

I believe I may have an interest in this comment...:-)

I believe it was probably meant as an insult, or attempt at a jibe, because, really, on the scale of things, I have been insulted by a far better class of insulter than that! Professionals insulters have been in tears because of me!

lol

Anyway, the insulter obviously thought better of it and realised what a poor effort it was because they deleted it. I look forward to a much better attempt the next time.

I haven't seen it, but if someone is rude enough to insult someone, they are probably the friendless ones.

How sad:(

I really think it's the individuals perception of the word
I very much prefer my own company & yet fully understand the concept of being alone in crowded room.

Maria Report 8 Jul 2008 17:47

I would agree entirely with Wild.

I think in the context it was written in the other thread it was indeed meant as somewhat of an insult.

And of the person it was said about, my humble opinion, based on the little I know of him, would be

On GR? Regularly

Opinionated? Oh yes, good on him for that, me too.

Sad and alone? Never. (At least Not in the way it was meant)

I don't know who said it or when, but I know the difference between ....
being alone, and being lonely.

I have people who love me, and I love being alone.
I am never lonely by myself.

Someone who said that is obviously very unhappy... perhaps lonely in a house full of people.
I hope she/he gets the help they need.
