My husband will be 55 at the end of August and I will be a year younger a couple of weeks before but I would say I am still more grown up than him :-) So I think the answer is girls catch up when quite young and boys never grow up.

Jacky :-)

I,ve got children on both sides ...born June and August .......also one born September ......

My August born baby will always be the youngest but will never grow up ...
My September baby should have been left school by now ......really ready for work or collage

I think it depends on the child

CMD Report 8 Jul 2008 21:59

Dear Muffy
This is something very close to my heart. I was born August 21st and always the youngest, then blow me If i did'nt go and have my daughter on August the 31st. It was so noticeable that she was the youngest, and behind all her friends physically, however she just about managed to keep up, in her school work, getting A* for some subjects. however she was always teased for being imature, starting her periods last, and whatever....as she turned 11 two days before starting 'big; school, her classmates all started going 12.
My niece was born 13 days later and was one of eldest, in her year, having to go to 'big' school a year later than my daughter, and did well at school, being older...
another niece was born 3rd sept, a year later, but didn't get in untill yet another year, so she was eldest in year, two years behind, in school but only 368 days younger....

my daughter has the last laugh now, as she is 5'11' and a model, so all the bullying and teasing she had,has obviously stopped...

daughter born august 6th,
shes 22 this year, shes always been like someone much older to speak to, and have very grownup conversations with her when she was little,
couldnt hide a thing from her, she always knew wot we were talking about,
just didnt like school much, it was too much concentration for her,
lol

We moved here just a couple of weeks before my eldest was due to start school in reception. She had only just turned 4 a matter of days before when she started and where I lived before she'd have been part time only til January but here it was straight into full time. I nearly cried. I didn't actually feel she was ready.

Conversely with my youngest ......... I felt she was ready to start school at three lol .......totally different personalityxx

My little grandson's birthday is 29th June but he started school in the September, making him just over 4 and 2 months.

He is very tall for his age and one of the youngest but the tallest in his class he's quite grown up for his age. Seems strange though that he was only 7 last week but has been at school for three years already.

Ails from NI

Ails from NI Report 8 Jul 2008 21:22

Here in NI the cut-off point for children is the 1st July - our schools break for the summer on June 30th and don't go back again until Sept 1st. That means if your child was born (say for argument sake) between 2nd July 1994 and the 1st July 1995 those children would all be in the same year group. My son is an August birthday and consequently he is one of the oldest in his year.
I have taught children who's birthday's are at the end of the year and who have been very mature AND bright and others who have been among the oldest in their year and been the complete opposite!!

Don't despair!!

In Scotland the gap is wider -you get into school in August if your birthday is before 28th feb , so some are only 41/2 , my daughter was Jan but she did okay, Ros xx

I was an August child, I was always the youngest or nearly youngest and the smallest in my class and I felt the age gap all through school.

My mate from School was born on 26th August and she was a prem baby (5 weeks). She always used to say it wasn't fair as she was meant to be in the year below. I've known her since she was 12 and she'd had caught up by then, even if she did like to make a thing of it!
