Try downloading AVG from this site

http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/

I think it's better than using AVG website.

I downloaded the new version of Zonealarm also and all seems ok.

Problem I have is I am in the United Arab Emirates, she is in UK. Downloading ZA latest version now and going to try sending by e-mail.
Funny thing was, spoke to her a few minutes ago on skype, so only IE does not work.

EDIT just had text to say her laptop has died :-(((

Keith can you not dowload (and save as a file as opposed to running it) to your computer, put it on a stick and then she can install it on her computer and run it then?

Ouch, not good. Can you download the update onto a CD on a different PC and then load it on to hers?

Wife cannot acces the internet at all, she had downloaded the updates, following advice, she uninstalled update KB951748 and she could access e-mails, but not the net, set ZA security to medium instead of high as suggested, still canot access net.
Rolled back to previous restore point and still cannot access the net.
Unistalled ZA as well, still nothing.
As she cannot get on the net, she cannot update ZA to get the fix!!!
Arrrrggggghhhhhh.

I received more auto updates last night and, yes, this morning I couldn't get online. I have switched off Zone Alarm and was immediately able to get back online (after switching my Windows firewall on).

Had a quick look at the link to the ZoneAlarm fix (see above) and it looks like that will resolve the problem and allow me to switch ZoneAlarm back on.

Regards,

ATM

Hi again,

Try as I did and go back to the last restore point before the auto updates downloaded. Everything for me is now absolutely fine. If I encounter the problem again, I will uninstall ZoneAlarm and go without it.

Good luck,

ATM

The exact same thing happened to me! I was pulling my hair out yesterday because BT Desktop Help was suggesting there was a problem with my router and when I tried to check the router, I could not get on the internet for the help text. I changed wires, moved bits, changed them back to no avail. Then I remembed the auto update from Tuesday night and went back to a system restore point taken on Sunday - problem resolved. I too am on BT Internet and have Zone Alarm.

Don't know if that helps, don't know if I should uninstall Zone Alarm - everything working ok at the moment but I have the little shield on my screen showing that there are more updates to install. Not sure what to do about that at the moment.

They didn't ask much from me...just if I was using a laptop or PC.

Before you do that though, have you switched your hub off and switched back on again, that may be all it takes to re-set it.

When you call them, just make sure you are sitting at your pc, with it on...and wired into the hub...the grey cable with the yellow ends...so the connection isn't broken when they connect to you...then sit back and let them do the work...lol

Col, zone alarm is a firewall, so if you are uninstalling your zone alarm, make sure you put windows firewall ON.

Are you on wireless? It might be that with the microsoft updates your PC might need re-configuring...try calling your provider, they should be able to help.

Updates knocked my internet out a few weeks ago, and BT had to reconfigure my PC to the wireless remotely while I was on the phone...brilliant.

the updates as far as I know are a internet access patch..

some guy has discovered a glitch that would allow rogues to redirect your web surfing to rogue sites..
the patch is to rectify that..
I am on XP........Bob

Are you running Zone Alarm?

There are known issues with the recent update and ZoneAlarm.

Some say to uninstall ZoneAlarm, some say not to allow the Windows updates.

You may be able to find a resolution on t'internet if you google.
