Which Airport is closest to ........
I,m planning my trip to England to meet my Dad,s siblings .

What airport is closest to Herefordshire, that has international flights as I'll be arriving from Australia

I,m new to this site but think it's fantastic

Birmingham International-but it'll depend which airline.My Sis-in-law usually comes into Heathrow & leaves from Gatwick to get to Shropshire(up a bit from Herefordshire)

nice to meet you summer, not sure on the airport, theres birmingham international ,not sure if nearest but someone will know, herefordshire is a lovely place spent many happy years times there when young.

I just checked for prices with British Airways, WOW they are so much cheaper. $2,750.oo return . Does your sister fly Economy or First Class

go first class its a long haul summer, you will need the comfort.

does first class given you a bed of some description or do you have to sleep in the seats.
first class with Emirates via Dubai is $16000.oo Thats a very big jump, I'll keep searching ( gulp )

Birmingham International does not handle BA flights and there is no direct service to Austrailia from/to Birmingham either (Birmingham's runway is too short for the very big planes). You can get to Dubai from Birmingham (2 flights a day) if you fancy a stop over on the journey

When we went to New Zealand we flew Air New Zealand because the seats were wider and you had more leg room but we had to use Heathrow. We also looked at a plan of the aircraft and booked seats near one of the doors because you have no seats in front of you, but dont book near the toilets because you get people falling over your feet all night. The other thing to remember is that the first seat near the door has the life raft attached and it sticks out on some planes, the good side is that the person in this seat sometimes get an upgrade if they have empty seats available. You could also have a look at flying into Skipol, Amsterdam, Netherlands and then on to the UK about an hours flight. Rodders

Earlier this year we flew Economy to New Zealand with Cathay Pacific.
I found it quite comfortable and easy to relax and sleep.
We flew in and out of Heathrow.

I wouldn't worry about chosing an airport near Herefordshire. I'd go for the best flight to suit you and then travel in UK from the airport.

I agree with you Gwyn, some airports dont give much choice on flights. I am closest to Luton about 30 minutes away, but generally travel from Gatwick as we have more choice. Also flown from stanstead. Gatwick is about 1 1/2 hours from me but much better choice.

Why dont you go the whole hog and have a stopover?
We flew, Edinburgh-Heathrow -Singapore where we stayed over one night then on to Melbourne. Did the same on the way home.Singapore airlines, they were exellent.

I Went to Australia 20 yr ago.first ever flight, all on my own, took 24hr and cost £1000 Quantas.

The stopover made a big difference. I didn't do it first time round as I was on my own.

She's flying in & out of Heathrow,usually she doesn't go via the USA but she's visiting someone-that's the expensive route!
She always has a stopover so she can get a shower etc-hope thats some help?

I agree with Marion,Singapore Airlines are excellent.
Travelled to Melbourne 4 years ago and we ordered seats near the back just two together with lots of legroom,so no one could disturb us,and had 2 days stopover in singapore,which does help on such a long haul.
Went with Emirates 2 years ago,also with Singapore stopover plus a break in Dubai,but not as good as Singapore Airlines.
Son and family on their way back to Oz as I write with Emirates and they are happy with the flights,so maybe they have improved,but they are having 3 days in Dubai before returning to Oz.
Never could I manage to go the whole way in one go.

We are going to the UK in September this year and will be flying with Malaysia airlines, ,which we found to be the cheapest, but we are leaving from Adelaide South Aus...so that might make a difference price wise. A lot of the airlines will not let you chose seats now...which is a bit of a bummer, especially if you want to have leg room near the bulkheads ( exit doors) ...the last time we went to the UK we had a stop over in Borneo for 3 days, but my husband said that he didn't want to do it this time as he wants to spend as much time as possible in the UK...plus I will be wanting to get to as many as possible places that I might be able to find my family roots...
What ever way you go Summer..you will love England, and it's beautiful softness and greeness...
